Symphony No. 9 "Choral", by Ludwig van Beethoven, by Teatro Colon Orchestra and Chorus

On September, Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th, 2008, at 8:30 PM, the Teatro Colon Orchestra and Chorus, with musical direction by Nir Kabaretti and chorus direction by Salvatore Caputo, present the Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 "Choral", by Ludwig van Beethoven at Auditorio de Belgrano (Virrey Loreto 2348), with the participation as soloist of soprano Monica Philibert, and mezzo soprano Monica Sardi, tenor Fernando Chabale, and baritone Lenardo Estevez.
Israeli Master Nir Kabaretti, who has directed the Buenos Aires Phillharmonic Orchestra in 2007 and 2006, has been recently appointed musical Director of Santa Barbara Symphony in California. He has worked in the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg festival as chorus director, at Teatro Real de Madrid as director and assistant of the musical director, and at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as personal assistan to Zubin Mehta and director.
The Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 "Choral" is the last complete symphony composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, and represents the apotheosis of Beethoven’s symphonies. It incorporates part of An die Freude ("Ode to Joy"), a poem written in 1785 by Friedrich Schiller, with text sung by soloists and a chorus in the last movement.

Tickets, from $16 to $50, can be purchased at Teatro Colón's tickett office, Tucumán 1171, Monday to Friday 9 AM to 5 PM, and Auditorio de Belgrano, Virrey Loreto 2348, Monday to Friday 10 AM to 1 PM, and 2 PM to 6 PM. Payment methods accepted: cash, credit and debit cards. On the day of the performance tickets will be on sale at Auditorio de Belgrano only. More information: 4378-7344

Coral is made in the ocean - millions of bodies of of marine animals forming a hard, calcified reef. Choral is what Beethoven's 9th Symphony is known as!!!! Love from Peter in Australia.

  2. Thanks Peter! I've corrected it. But the mistake was because "Choral" in Spanish is "Coral", just like the marine animals.

  4. Hi!
There are concerts by Teatro Colon's orchestra on Oct. 4, 5 and 7, a Chamber concert on Oct. 3, and Organ concerts on Oct. 5 and 6. Click on the link to Teatro Colon on the right, under "Places to Visit", and at their website click on the picture of the theater to see the updated programming. Please email me if you need any help.
    Have a nice trip!

Thank you for your help Sandra. I have looked on The Teatro Colon's web site. Instead of Beethoven's 9th, there is and organ concert. The composer is contemporary, not really what I would have hoped. Do you know of any other classical performances? I've been looking but have come up with nothing. Any Churches give performances?
