Polo, Art, & Charity Events

Two simultaneous events bring together Art and Polo in aid of charity organizations:

Buenos Aires Polo & Arts is a charity exhibition, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, that will take place between November 15 and December 6, 2008, in different spots of a circuit comprised by Avenida Alvear, Quintana, Posadas, and Arroyo Street. The exhibit conisists of 30 real-life horse sculptures that have been intervened by renowned artists, like: Marino Santa María, Nora Iniesta, Martiniano Arce, Ernesto Pesce, Mireya Baglieto, Febe de Felipe, Gimena Ferrari, Eduardo Pla, Xil Buffone, Alicia Carletti, Alejandro Moy, Juan Astica, Carolina Antoniadis, Jorge González Perrín, Rosana Fuertes, Sergio Avello, Daniel Ontiveros, Jorge Álvaro, Claudia Lucini, Edgardo Jiménez, Sofía Pombar, Silvana Comendatore, Carolina Espinel, Gabriela Pertovt, Gerardo Felestein, Marcelo Toledo, Gabriel Álvarez y Analía Werthein.
At the end of the exhibition and during the closing party on December 9 at Tango Porteño, the pieces will be auctioned in aid of Fundación Hospital Fernández.
During the exhibition period, 8 of these pieces will remain at Casa de la Cultura, Avenida de Mayo 575. The remaining sculptures will be placed along avenida Alvear at 1976, 1946, 1920, 1902, 1890, 1862, 1850, 1807, 1829, 1881, 1891, 1917, 1939 and 1653; Arroyo 980, 963, 962, 896, 886, 860, 834, 823, 845 and 869; Posadas 1030 and 1089. Some of them will be part of a setting that recreates scenes typical of the history of Polo.

Polo& Art® is both an artistic and a charity event that will take place during the Gold Cup at Ellerstina Polo Club. The top handicap polo players from Argentina that have generously donated their polo helmets to be decorated by contemporary artists in colorful and attractive designs are: Facundo Pieres, Gonzalo Pieres (Jr), Juan Martín Nero and Pablo Mc Donough (Ellerstina); Mariano Aguerre, Adolfo Cambiaso, Bartolomé Castagnola and Lucas Monteverde (La Dolfina); Eduardo Novillo Astrada, Miguel Novillo Astrada (La Aguada); Bautista Heguy (Black Watch); Marcos Heguy and Agustín Merlos (Pilará); Ignacio Heguy (Indios Chapaleufú II).
The polo helmets are displayed during the Gold Cup tournament from November 2 to November 13 at Ellerstina Polo Club in Pilar, and will be auctioned on Thursday, November 13 at the closing party. All the funds raised from the auction will be donated to Banco de Alimentos, The food bank of Buenos Aires that offers support and help in the maltrunition problems in Argentina. Banco de Alimentos is part of Global Food Banking Network.
Some of the artists and designers that have contributed with their talent and creativity are: Luis Altieri, Antonia Guzmán, Marta Minujin, Martiniano Arce; Felipe Gimenez, Genoveva Fernández, Gabriela Pertovt, among others.
