From April 24 through May 25 2009, the emblematic "Avenida de Mayo" will become an open air stage for Argentine and Hispanic culture. Neighbors and tourists alike will be able to enjoy the cultural festival "Gran Via de Mayo" in the heart of our city.
The program of activities, that will take place every weekend for a month (Saturdays from 3 pm and Sundays from 11 am) includes: free guided visits in Spanish and English around Plaza de Mayo, the Government Palace and Casa de la Cultura; activities and performances for children; Celtic music shows; free chorus and piano concerts at Casa de la Cultura; flamenco and tango shows at an open air stage; performances by the most renowned Tango houses in Buenos Aires (Tango Palace, El Viejo Almacen, Taconeando, La Ventana, El Querandi).
One of the most important events among the over 200 programmed activities, is "La Gran Milonga", that will take place on Sunday, May 10th, from 5 pm to 10 pm, when locals and visitors will have the opportunity to dance and enjoy tango dancing on the avenue.

    Sandra,
I'm excited about being there with my two girls..wish we could be there for the milonga, but at least we'll be able to take in the next weekend...there's so much!...which of the events listed is a "must-see" to help me narrow it down?
    Thanks! Sharon

  3. Hi Sharon!
I'd recommend that you don't miss the guided visit to Casa de la Cultura and Palacio de Gobierno (every hour from 4 pm), watch the tango shows at the different stages along the avenue, at 5 pm and 6 pm, and then the shows by the Tango salons at 7 pm. I'm sure you will have a great time!
