The prestigious TEATRO COLON OF BUENOS AIRES, one of the most important Opera Houses in the world, has announced its 2022 SEASON PROGRAM.

The 2022 season of Teatro Colón will be full of proposals for all audiences, featuring some world-class names and titles. In addition to Martha Argerich, who will present a series of concerts with special guests, there will be ten recitals with notable artists - among others, Plácido Domingo, the soprano Ainhoa ​​Arteta and the tenor Roberto Alagna - and outstanding productions such as Tosca and L'elisir d'amore, with the stellar presence of two international couples respectively: Anna Netrebko & Yusif Eyvazov; and Javier Camarena & Nadine Sierra.

Opera: With 4 new productions from Teatro Colón, the season will feature 7 titles of the highest level:
* La Bohème, by Giacomo Puccini, under the stage direction of Stefano Trespidi and a national and international cast of great performers.
* The Consul, by Gian Carlo Menotti, under the direction of Rubén Szuchmacher. New production of Teatro Colón.
* Nabucco, by Giuseppe Verdi, with stage direction, set design and costumes by Stefano Poda. New production of Teatro Colón.
* L'elisir d'amore, by Gaetano Donizetti, under stage direction of Emilio Sagi and the stellar interpretation of Javier Camarena and Nadine Sierra. New production of Teatro Colón.
* The Seven Deadly Sins, by Kurt Weill / Bluebeard's Castle, by Béla Bartók.
* The Pearl Fishers, by Georges Bizet, under the stage direction of Michal Znaniecki. New production of Teatro Colón in co-production with Teatr Wielki w Łodzi in Poland.
* Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, with the starring vocal role of the Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, and the Azeri tenor Yusif Eyvazov in a production by Roberto Oswald (1933-2013)

Ballet: Under the direction of Paloma Herrera, the Stable Ballet of Teatro Colón will present 5 emblematic titles from various eras and styles that expose the versatility of the company:
* Giselle, with choreography by Gustavo Mollajoli and the participation of guest dancers such as Natalia Osipova (Royal Ballet) and Isaac Hernández (English National Ballet).
* Mixed program, composed by Sinfonietta by Leoš Janáček with choreography by the Czech Jiří Kylián and Carmen by Georges Bizet with a new choreography created by Alejandro Cervera.
* La fille mal gardée, by Ferdinand Hérold with choreography by Sir Frédérick Ashton.
* Romeo and Juliet, with choreography by Sir Kenneth MacMillan and the special participation of the guest dancer Herman Cornejo (American Ballet).
* The Merry Widow, by Franz Lehár under the choreography of Ronald Hydn and the participation of Roberto Bolle as guest dancer.

The Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, under the musical direction of Enrique Arturo Diemecke, will offer 19 concerts with guest conductors such as Edo de Waart, Charles Dutoit, Alpesh Chauhan, Josep Vicent, Alejo Pérez and Baldur Brönimann. The season will also feature the presence of the prominent Venezuelan conductor Glass Marcano, who has been recently awarded in Paris. The young violinist Noa Wildschut; the pianist Javier Perianes, the clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer, the pianist Ingrid Fliter, the guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas, the pianist Sergio Tiempo and the pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, among other guests, will also perform as soloists.

The renowned Argentine pianist Martha Argerich will offer a series of concerts in the month of August, with special guests such as the prestigious conductor Charles Dutoit and the actress Annie Dutoit-Argerich, their daughter.

The series Great International Performers will feature leading international artists such as Placido Domingo; Ainhoa ​​Arteta; Nancy Fabiola Herrera; Roberto Alagna; Sondra Radvanovsky; Nadine Sierra; Jakub Józef Orliński; Michael Schade; Magdalena Kožená, Yusif Eyvazov. The Italian novelist and journalist Alessandro Baricco will explore the meaning of time in a musically illustrated show entitled Sul Tempo e sull´Amore.

The Stable Orchestra Teatro Colón will perform programmatic music, symphonic songs and symphonic-choral works, under the baton of various conductors and the participation of guest soloists. Pieces by Strauss, Elgar, Ravel, Puccini and Stravinsky, among others, will be performed.

The traditional Free Chamber Music Series at the Golden Hall will consist of 12 recitals throughout the year, with a special presentation on March 8th for International Women's Day, with the recital Women in Music. The 2022 program will include the performances of four of the most prestigious string quartets in our country, featuring among others, the Petrus Quartet and the Gianneo Quartet.

The Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón directed by Marcelo Birman will continue to exhibit the work of the new generation of talents in training. In addition to participating in some of the contents of Colón for Kids, students will carry out the stage productions Die schöne Galathée by Franz Von Suppé, Alice in Wonderland by Marta Lambertini, and The Descent of Orpheus In Hell by Marc-Antoine Charpentier. The program will also feature the choreographic show Pulcinella by Igor Stravinsky, 6 concerts by the Academic Orchestra in the Main Hall, and the Lyrical and Argentine Music Recitals cycle, which will consist of 8 presentations in the Golden Hall. During the winter holidays the Higher Institute of Art will stage the one-act Ballet Graduation Ball by Johann Strauss.

The program Colón for Kids will return with the adaptation of the opera L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti by the Academic Orchestra of the Higher Institute of Art, whose musicians will also perform Snowstorm by Georgy Sviridov (a suite of musical illustrations about a tale by Aleksandr Pushkin) and the musical Theodore and the Nameless Robot by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Stable Ballet of the Teatro Colón will also participate in this series with some performances of Giselle by Adolphe Adam and La Fille Mal Gardée by Ferdinand Hérold. There will also be activities for babies, specially designed for children under two years of age.

Colón Contemporáneo will have its tenth edition next year, arriving with György Ligeti's Violin Concerto, Charles Ives' Sonata Concord, and George Antheil's experimental Ballet Mécanique, which will be presented alongside the Argentine premiere of the Fantaisie Mécanique by South Korean composer Unsuk Chin.
