2019 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and Tango Dance World Cup

The 2019 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and Tango Dance World Cup will be held between August 8th and August 21st, 2019,  featuring more than 200 shows and free activities including concerts and dance performances, popular "milongas", shows, conferences and clinics, exhibition and sale of products, dance classes in various levels and styles, and the competition for the Tango Dance World Cup, with the participation of the best couples of dancers from Argentina and the world.

The Opening of the 2019 Festival will be on Thursday, August 8th at Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo, for the first time with a Musical Theater show, “Aquí cantó Gardel”, a play about the last time that Carlos Gardel performed in Buenos Aires, with the participation of Orquesta de Tango de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

The Closing concert will be on Monday, August 19th, at 9:00 pm, at the Auditoriom of Usina del Arte, with pianist and composer José Colangelo together with Franco Luciani, one of the most important harmonica players.  

Many other concerts will be held at different venues during the Festival, including cultural centers, notable bars and theaters. Throughout the World Tango Festival classes of different levels and styles will be given by renowned dancers and instructors from recognized schools, all free of charge.

One of the milestones of the Festival, Milonga del Salson Mayor, will take place every day at Usina del Arte, an open invitation to those that want to dance the traditional tango with invited DJs from different generations and musical styles. Other Milongas will take place at Cultural centers, for novices and experienced dancers alike.



TANGO DANCE WORLD CUP:
This is the celebration that makes Buenos Aires the mecca for tango dancers around the world. The event rewards the best couples in the Tango de Pista category, which stresses the social dance as a practice rooted in Buenos Aires, and Tango Escenario, which aims to enrich the dance from a choreographic point of view. Starting on Monday, August 12th, more than 500 couples from around the world measure their talents in this competition.

The qualifying rounds start on Monday 12th at 11 am at the Auditorium of Usina del Arte. On Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th the competition is for Tango de Pista. On Wednesday 14th and Thursday 165th, Tango Escenario. No advanced tickets are required, but the admittance will be by a strict first come-first served basis until reaching the full capacity of the Hall.

On Friday 16th, at 6.00 pm, at the Auditorium of Usina del Arte, there will be a Gala with the participation of the National and International champions of the 2019 Preliminaries, as well as concert by Los Herederos del Compás. Free tickets for this event will have to be reserved online in advance (see below).

The Semifinals will take place at Usina del Arte. Tango de Pista: Saturday 17th; Tango Escenario: Sunday 18th; both at 10.00 am. Free tickets for this event will have to be reserved online in advance (see below).

The World Cup culminates in two major Finals: Tango de Pista on Tuesday 20th, and Tango Escenario on Wednesday 21st both at 7.00 pm, at Luna Park Stadium. Free tickets for these events will have to be reserved online in advance (see below).

FREE TICKETS FOR SHOWS AND ACTIVITIES:
Admission to all the activities and shows of the Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup is free. Some require reservation and registration in advance.

Online reservations for the Semifinals of the Dance Championship at Usina del Arte and the Shows programmed at the following venues: Usina del Arte (Sala de Cámara y Auditorio), Museo del Cine Pablo Ducrós Hicken, Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo, El Cultural San Martín, Espacio Cultural Julián Centeya, Espacio Cultural Carlos Gardel, Espacio Cultural Resurgimiento, Espacio Cultural Adán Buenosayres, El Moderno, Teatro Margarita Xirgu - Espacio UNTREF, Teatro Monteviejo, Academia Nacional del Tango and Academia Porteña del Lunfardo, will be open from August 1st through this link:

- 1 (one) ticket per person per show can be reserved. The reserved tickets can be picked up 2 hours before showtime at the venue’s Information Desk. Reserved tickets will be valid until 30 minutes before the start of the show. After this they will be freed for the general public.
- A limited number of ticket without reservation will be available at each venue, from 1(one) hour before the start of the show.

Free entrance:
For the shows and activities in the rest of the venues and for the qualifying rounds of the Dance World Championship it is not necessary to reserve tickets in advance., admittance will be on a first come-first served basis until reaching the full capacity of each venue.

Online registrations: 
To participate in the Dance Classes and Sing at the Festival it is necessary to register online from August 1st through this link:

Places will be assigned by registration order until all available spots are assigned.

Finals at Luna Park:
For the Finals of the World Dance Championship on August 20th and 21st at Luna Park Stadium, 1 (one) ticket per person for each day can be reserved from Friday, August 16th through this link: www.buenosaires.gob.ar/festivales
The reserved tickets can be picked up on the day of the show from 12:00 pm at the box office of Luna Park Stadium. The locations will be assigned by arrival order. Reserved tickets will be valid until 30 minutes before the start of the show. After this they will be freed for the general public.
A limited number of ticket without reservation will be available for pick up at in person at Usina del Arte on Friday, August 16th, from 11 am.
