2014 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and Tango Dance World Cup

The 2014 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and Tango Dance World Cup, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires, will be held between August 13th and August 26th, 2014.

This new edition features more than 200 shows and free activities including concerts and dance performances, popular "milongas", shows, conferences and clinics, exhibition and sale of products, dance classes in various levels and styles, and the competition for the Tango Dance World Cup, in which the best couples of dancers from Argentina and the world will be participating.

The Great Opening of the Festival will be on Wednesday, August 13th at Usina del Arte, with a concert at 8.30 pm by Osvaldo Berlingeri and his orchestra, followed at 9.15 pm by Orquesta del Tango de la Ciudad Buenos Aires in a concert dedicated to the great bandoneon player Anibal Troilo, who will also be honored with other concerts throughout the Festival.

Throughout the World Tango Festival classes of different levels and styles will be given by renowned dancers and instructors from recognized schools.

The famous Galpón de la Boca will be converted in a mega dance floor, "La Milonga del Puerto", with live music, Dj set, exhibitions and dance lessons. It will be open every day of the Festival, from 2 pm to 10 pm. Some of the orchestras that will be playing live are: La Juan D’Arienzo, Orquesta Típica Esquina Sur, Color Tango, and El Sexteto Milonguero, among others.

TANGO DANCE WORLD CUP:
This is the celebration that makes Buenos Aires the mecca for tango dancers around the world. The event rewards the best couples in the Tango de Pista category, which stresses the social dance as a practice rooted in Buenos Aires, and Tango Escenario, which aims to enrich the dance from a choreographic point of view. More than 500 couples from around the world measure their talents in this competition.
The qualifying rounds and semifinals will take place at Usina del Arte. The World Cup culminates in two major Finals, Tango de Pista on on Monday 25th and Tango Escenario on Tuesday 26th, at the Luna Park Stadium.

FREE TICKETS FOR SHOWS AND ACTIVITIES:
Admission to all the activities and shows of the Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup is free.
Free tickets for the shows Semi Finals of the Dance World Cup at Usina del Arte, will be given out at the Information Stand on the same day of the show, 1 hour before each performance (1 ticket per person).
Tickets for the Finals of the Dance World Cup that will take place at Lunar Park on August 25th and 26th will be available for pick-up on Monday, August 18th, from 11 am, at the Casa de La Cultura, Av. de Mayo 575. 2 (two) tickets for each event will be given out per person until reaching the capacity of 10,000 seats.
Tickets for the shows at Pista Urbana will be given out at the venue on the same day of the show, 1 hour before each performance.
Tickets for the screenings at Museo del Cine will be given out at the Information Stand of Usina del Arte, on the same day, 1 hour before each performance (1 ticket per person).
The activities at Galpón de La Boca, Teatro de la Ribera, Radio Bar and AMIA don´t require tickets. The admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis until the venue reaches capacity.
For the shows at AMIA, the public must show 1(one) hour in advance with an ID.

Summer 2014: Program of Free cultural activities in Buenos Aires

The government of the City of Buenos Aires presents a summer program of cultural activities that starts next Saturday, January 11th, 2014, consisting on over 100 free events, including: musical shows, drive-in movies, theater plays, activities for children, tango shows, lessons and "milongas", and numerous musical events, every day during January and February 2014.

For kids: 
Circus shows on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 6.30 pm and Magic shows on February 15 and 16, at 6.30 pm, all at Polo Circo, Av. Juan de Garay & Combate de los Pozos.

The drive-in movie theater for adults will be set up at the Rose Garden, on Av Libertador & Sarmiento, every Saturday and Sunday from January 18 to February 9, at 9:00 PM. There will also be stalls for spectators without a car. 

On weekends, Tango at Usina del Arte, Pedro de Mendoza 501 (La Boca). On Saturdays and Sundays, starting at 5 pm and 6.30 pm, shows by renowned artists and live orchestras; at 5.45 pm, masterful tango lessons and milonga exhibitions, and at 8 pm, Milonga open to the general public.

The show Buenos Aires Tango by Mora Godoy will be presented at the Amphitheater of Parque Centenario (Av. Angel Gallardo & Leopoldo Marechal): on January 23 and February 6, 8.30 pm

All the activities are free of charge, limited to the capacity of each venue.

La Gran Milonga Nacional 2013 - Open Air Tango Dancing

"La Gran Milonga Nacional", an open air event with live orchestras and street tango dancing on Avenida de Mayo, which is transformed for one night in a giant dance floor, will take place on Saturday, December 7th, 2013.

This fantastic event, which every year occupies the traditional Avenida de Mayo, from Plaza de Mayo to 9 de Julio Av. is organized by the National Tango Academy and the Association of Promoters of Tourism, Hotel Business and Gastronomy (APTHGRA), in honor of the National Tango Day which is celebrated on December 11th.

La Gran Milonga Nacional will start at 8:00 pm, and will last until 3 am, with three central stages in the corners of Avenida de Mayo with Bernardo de Irigoyen, Piedras and Perú, and other smaller ones along the avenue, where the audience will be able to dance on the street to the music of live Tango orchestras, with their dancers and singers.

The event rewards the best couples in the Tango Salon category, which stresses the social dance as a practice rooted in Buenos Aires, and Tango Escenario, which aims to enrich the dance from a choreographic point of view. More than 500 couples from around the world measure their talents in this competition.
The qualifying rounds and semifinals will take place at the Centro Municipal de Exposiciones. The World Cup culminates in two major finals, Tango Salon and Tango Escenario, at the Luna Park stadium, on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27.

Tickets for the Final Rounds that will take place at Lunar Park on August 26th and 27th will be available for pick-up on Monday, August 19th, from 11am, at the Centro Municipal de Exposiciones. 2 (two) tickets for one of the Final Rounds will be given out per person until reaching the capacity of 10,000 seats.
For the shows at Usina del Arte, tickets can be picked up at the Information Stand on the same day of the show, 2 hours before each performance.
Tickets for the show at Teatro 25 de Mayo can be picked up from 5.00 pm on the performance day at the theater.

Tango: Buenos Aires City Dance Champhionship 2013

From Sunday, May 12th to Sunday, May 26th, 2013, the Buenos Aires City Tango Dance Championship 2013 will be held in different "milongas", theaters, and cultural centers across the city.

The competition is on the look out for new winning couples in the categories Tango de Pista, Milonga, "Milongueros" of the World, and Waltz, who will qualify to participate in the World Tango Dance Championship that will take place in Buenos Aires in August 2013.

The Championship starts on May 12th at Teatro 25 de Mayo. The qualifying rounds will continue on Saturday 18 at CC Resurgimiento (La Paternal), Sunday 19 at CC Julián Centeya (San Cristóbal), and Tuesday 21 at CC Carlos Gardel (Chacarita), all with free entrance and limited capacity, until Wednesday 22 at La Viruta (Palermo) ($ 40 Pesos), to arrive at semifinals on Thursday 23rd at El Pial (Flores) ($30 Pesos).

The Final will be held on Sunday, May 26th at the recently inaugurated cultural center Usina del Arte (Av. Pedro de Mendoza & Caffarena), in La Boca, with free entrance. Free tickets for this event must be picked up at Casa de la Cultura, Av. de Mayo 575, on Friday 24th, from 12pm to 5pm (2 tickets per person). Make sure to get in line early!

A tribute to Astor Piazolla, in the 20th anniversary of his death. The grand opening and closing milonga and the competition for the Tango Dance World Cup.

Tango: City Dance Champhionship 2012

The competition is on the look out for new winning couples in the categories Tango Salon, Milonga, "Milongueros" of the World, and Waltz, who will qualify to participate in the World Tango Dance Championship that will take place in Buenos Aires in August 2012.
The Championship starts on May 10th at Milonga El Arranque and Tango Ideal. The qualifying rounds will continue until Sunday, May 20th at different clubs and milongas of the city, to arrive at semifinals on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th at La Viruta and El Pial.

The Final will be held on Saturday 26th at the recently inaugurated cultural center Usina del Arte (Av. Pedro de Mendoza & Caffarena), in La Boca. Besides the tango dance competition, there will be a concert tribute to Astor Piazzolla. Free tickets for this event must be picked up at Casa de la Cultura, Av. de Mayo 575, on Friday 25th, from 12pm to 5pm (2 tickets per person).

Tango concert tribute to Horacio Salgán at Teatro Colon

Horacio Salgán, considered one the greatest pianists in the history of tango, will be honored on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 at the Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires by the orchestra he once conducted, now in charge of his son Cesar, reinforced with notable instrumentalists of the genre. 
Horacio Salgán, aged 95, is one of the most influential performers and composers in Tango history. 
The tribute will be held Saturday at 8.30pm and will include the ensemble of the historic bandoneon players that used to accompany Salgán: Julio Pane, Juan Jose Mosalini, Nestor Marconi and Ernesto Baffa.
The repertoire, totally arranged and supervised by the maestro himself, will include “Canaro en París”, “Gallo Ciego”, “Recuerdo”, “Ojos negros”, “El choclo”, “Tierra querida”, “El Entrerriano”, “A dos mujeres”, “Responso” “Al gran Maestro”, “Mano Brava”, “La llamo silbando”, “A fuego lento” and his verssion of “La pulpera de Santa Lucía” that has never been recorded. 
This special production was presented for the first time at the last World Tango Festival, becoming one the most outstanding moments of the event. 

Tickets will range from $ 10 to $ 60 Argentine Pesos, and will go be sale at the theater’s box office (Tucuman 1171) on the same Saturday 3rd, from 10am to 5pm.

Ballet performance by Iñaki Urlezaga at Manzana de Las Luces

The great Argentine dancer Iñaki Urlezaga, together with his company Ballet Concierto, presents a performance at La Manzana de las Luces, Peru 272, on Sunday, December 18th, 2011, at 8:00 pm.

Iñaki and his Ballet will be joined by Orquesta de Tango de La Plata, to present the special show "Siempre Buenos Aires". This show has been presented in Mexico, at the National Auditorium to more than 8,000 people, and at the Tribeca Theatre in New York, acclaimed with a standing ovation.

This production features a Tango choreography with the personal touch of Iñaki Urlezaga.

Gran Milonga Nacional 2011 - Open Air Tango Dancing

"La Gran Milonga Nacional", an open air event with live orchestras and street tango dancing on Avenida de Mayo, will take place this year on Saturday, December 17th, 2011.
The celebration, which every year occupies that traditional Avenida de Mayo from Plaza de Mayo to 9 de Julio Av. is organized by the National Tango Academy and the Association of Promoters of Tourism, Hotel Business and Gastronomy (APTHGRA).

2011 National Tango Day Celebration

The city of Buenos Aires celebrates the National Tango Day on Friday, December 9th, 2011, with an open air, free concert at the Planetarium (Av. Figueroa Alcorta and Sarmiento) starting at 7:00 PM.
Some of the greatest tango artists will get together at the giant stage, like: Raúl Lavié, José “Pepe” Colángelo, Amelita Baltar, Pablo Agri, Juan José Mosalini, María Graña with Esteban Morgado, Raúl Garello, Horacio Ferrer, Alberto Podestá, Juan Carlos Godoy, Nicolás Ledesma, Jairo.
The Tango Dancing will also be present with Juan Carlos Copes together with Johana Copes, Gloria y Eduardo, the energy of  Corporación tango, and Ana María Stekelman with her company Tangokinesis.

There will be 8000 seats available to the public, and two large screens will be installed for easy viewing of the show. 

The Tango, declared by UNESCO as World's Cultural Heritage, celebrates its day on December 11th, in commemoration of the birth of Carlos Gardel and Julio De Caro.

This new edition features more than a hundred shows and free activities including concerts and dance performances, popular milongas, shows, conferences and clinics, a film series, exhibition and sale of products, dance classes in various levels and styles, and a competition in which the best couples of dancers from Argentina and the world will be participating.
Throughout the World Tango Festival classes of different levels and styles will be given by renowned dancers and instructors from recognized schools. Music from the 40's, live orchestras, mixed with electronic and rock music will liven up traditional milongas and alternative parties. The grand opening and closing milongas and the welcome ball for the 400 couples that will arrive to compete at the Dance World Cup.

GREAT OPENING MILONGA: Tuesday, August 16, at 8:00 pm. Centro de Exposiciones: Av. Figueroa Alcorta and Av. Pueyrredón. Free entrance.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
There will be book presentations, conferences and informative talks about historical figures. A film series by the Bafici devoted to films related to tango. Exclusive concerts: A section that brings together representative figures of the history of Tango. Dance classes: For intermediate and advanced students, there will be themed classes; and those who want to take their first dance steps will be guided by the most prestigious schools of Buenos Aires; themed, historical and photographic exhibitions; among many other activities.

Tickets for the Semifinal Rounds and Final Rounds will be available for pick-up on Monday, August 22, 11 AM–7 PM, at Casa de la Cultura, Av. de Mayo 575. 2 (two) tickets for one of the Semifinal Rounds and 2 (two) tickets for one of the Final Rounds will be given out per person, having to choose between the categories Salon Tango or Stage Tango.

Tango: City Dance Champhionship 2011

The competition is on the look out for new winning couples in the categories Salon Tango, Milonga and Waltz, who will qualify to participate in the World Tango Dance Championship that will take place in Buenos Aires in August 2011.
The Championship starts on May 4th at La Viruta. The qualifying rounds will continue until Sunday, May 15th at different clubs and milongas of the city, to arrive at semifinals on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 at La Viruta and El Pial. The final will be held on Saturday 21 at the picturesque colonial building of Colegio San José (Azcuénaga 158, Balvanera). And there will be a grand closing with an open air milonga, with a live orchestra and live exhibitions by the winners.

The main events are:
May 4th, 11:30pm: Opening of the Championship at La Viruta, Armenia 1366
May 7th, 6:00pm: Free Open Air Milonga at La Glorieta de Belgrano, 11 de Septiembre and Echeverria. In case of rain it will be moved to May 8th.
May 17th, 6:00pm: Special Milonga with free entrance at Centro Cultural Julian Centeya, Av. San Juan 158
May 21st, 8:00pm: Great Final at Colegio San José, Azcuénaga 158. Free tickets must be picked up on Friday, May 20th, from 12pm to 6pm, at Casa de la Cultura, Av. de Mayo 575.
May 22nd: Closing Milonga at San Juan and Boedo, with live orchestra and exhibitions. Free entrance.

Summer 2011: free cultural activities in Buenos Aires

The government of the City of Buenos Aires presents "Aires Buenos Aires - Cultura para respirar" (Culture to Breathe), a program of cultural activities that starts next Friday, January 7th, 2011 consisting on over 100 free events, including: musical shows, drive-in movies, theater plays, activities for children, circus, performances open air "milongas", and numerous musical events, every day during January and February, 2011.
Los Cafres, Fidel, Ratones Paranoicos, Miranda, Attaque 77 and Nonpalidece, are some of the artists that will entertain the audiences with their musical shows.
There are many options for kids every day of the week. On Mondays, they can learn to dance Tango at Milonguitas opposite Caminito, with lessons by professors from the dance school of Mora Godoy.  On Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Pasaje Lanín, the small artists can develop their talents at "A Pintar en la Ciudad". On Thursdays, activities in the museums with  La Noche de Las Linternas (the Night of the Flashlights), with Mariana Cincunegui. On Fridays and Saturdays, open air movie projections at the Amphitheater of Parque Centenario, with animation movies from independent directors. And the circus show Ludus at Polo Circo, based on the pleasure of playing, for the astonishment of kids and adults alike.
The drive-in movie theater for adults will be set up at the Rose Garden, on Av Libertador & Sarmiento, every Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 PM. There will also be stalls for spectators without a car. The first  showing will be "Carancho", with Ricardo Darin, directed by Pablo Trapero, on Saturday 8th.
On weekends, open air milongas at Vuelta de Rocha (La Boca), with artists like Amelita Baltar, Adriana Varela and Luis Salinas, and tango lessons and exhibitions. At the Amphitheater of Parque Centenario  every Wednesday the company of Brenda Angiel presents "8cho", a different show with live music and aerial dance.
In February, Música Urbana at Costanera Sur presents the new albums of Pedro Aznar and Bahiano and the shows by Javier Malosetti with Les Amaturs. At the same stage there will be Folklore shows, with Opus 4, Jaime Torres and Dúo Coplanacu.
The Grand Closing of the event will  be at the Obelisk on February 19, with the presentation of the emblematic show that took Tango all over the world: TANGO ARGENTINO.

2010 National Tango Day Celebration

The city of Buenos Aires celebrates the National Tango Day on Saturday, December 11th, 2010, with an open air free concert at the Obelisco, at 7:00 PM.
The Tango, declared by UNESCO as World's Cultural Heritage, celebrates its days in commemoration of the birth of Carlos Gardel and Julio De Caro. The stage will be mounted on Avenida 9 de Julio looking towards the south, there will be 8000 seats available to the public, and two large screens will be installed for easy viewing of the show.

The "Orquesta de Tango de Buenos Aires", conducted by maestros Raúl Garello, Néstor Marconi and Juan Carlos Cuacci, with violin player Pablo Agri as invited soloist, will celebrate its 30 years of existence on the stage. The Orchestra will open the show presenting its new album that compiles the most important themes in their records.
Following this presentation, maestro Mariano Mores and his sextet will join the Orchestra to offer a special concert presenting the greatest hits of his vast career, inlcuding: "La Cumparsita", "Cafetín de Buenos Aires", "Cuartito azul", and "Adiós Pampa mía", among others.
The closing of the show will be with singer Susana Rinaldi, who will present her latest album based on the  works of Cátulo Castillo, accompanied by the Orquesta de Tango de Buenos Aires. This great Argentine singer was awarded last November with the Latin Grammy to Musical Excellence.

At the same time, the Gran Milonga Nacional will be taking place on Avenida de Mayo.

Gran Milonga Nacional 2010 - Open Air Tango Dancing

"La Gran Milonga Nacional", an open air event with live orchestras and street tango dancing on Avenida de Mayo, will take place this year on Saturday, December 11th, the National Tango Day.
The celebration, which every year occupies that traditional Avenue from Plaza de Mayo to 9 de Julio is organized by the National Tango Academy and the Association of Promoters of Tourism, Hotel Business and Gastronomy (APTHGRA).
La Gran Milonga Nacional will start at 8:00 pm, with three central stages in the corners of Avenida de Mayo and Bernardo de Irigoyen, Piedras and Perú, and other smaller ones along the avenue, and the audience will be able to dance on the street to the music of live orchestras and singers.

Week of the Cafes and Notable Bars of Buenos Aires


Starting October 22nd, 2010, Buenos Aires celebrates the "Week of the Cafes of Buenos Aires", in which the Notable Bars will be honored, offering a series of activities that will culminate on Wednesday 27th with a free open air concert by singer Soledad Villamil at Esquina Homero Manzi, in the corner of San Juan y Boedo, at 8.30pm.

During these days there will be guided visits to know the history of these emblematic places, and musical shows at every Notable bar.
On Tuesday 26th, the "Day of the Cafes" will be celebrated, with a 4x2 offer. On that day guests can order 4 coffees and pay only 2, while enjoying tango and flamenco shows, between 7pm and 9pm, at one of these bars:

2010 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Dance Competition

The 2010 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Dance Competition, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires, will be held between August 13 and 31, 2010.
This new edition features more than a hundred shows and free activities including concerts and dance performances, popular milongas, shows, conferences and clinics, a film series, exhibition and sale of products, dance classes in various levels and styles, and a competition in which the best couples of dancers from Argentina and the world will be participating.
Throughout the World Tango Festival classes of different levels and styles will be given by renowned dancers and instructors from recognized schools: Gloria and Eduardo, Mayoral and Elsa María, Fernando Galera and Vilma Vega, Gabriela Elias and Eduardo Perez, Carolina Bonaventura and Forquera Francisco, among others. Music from the 40's, live orchestras, mixed with electronic and rock music will liven up traditional milongas and alternative parties. Exhibitions, tributes and meetings with emblematic figures will be accompanied by Color Tango milonga, Ojos de Tango, Ultratango, Otros Aires, DJ Inca, DJ Mario Orlando and others.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
There will be book presentations, conferences and informative talks about historical figures. Tango in Japan and Finland. Tango and the kids. Tango in Argentine classical music. Studies of compositional styles. A film series by the Bafici devoted to films with musi by Astor Piazzolla from the '40s and '50s. The release of "Prisoners of the ground", a documentary about the tango in Finland. Clinics aimed at musicians and novices dedicated to Horacio Salgán, Eduardo Rovira and analysis of new works. Among many other activities.

WORLD DANCE COMPETITION:
This is the celebration that makes Buenos Aires the mecca for tango dancers around the world. The event rewards the best couples in the Tango Salon category, which stresses the social dance as a practice rooted in Buenos Aires, and Stage Tango, which aims to enrich the dance from a choreographic point of view. More than 400 couples from around the world measure their talents.
The World Cup culminates in two major finals in the Luna Park stadium, with the presentation of Miguel Angel Zotto, and a tribute to Maria Nieves, the sublime ballerina who nearly six decades ago, in this context and with Juan Carlos Copes, earned a standing ovation and a title of champion that never lapsed.

VENUES OF TANGO BUENOS AIRES:
Teatro de la Ribera (Av. Pedro DE Mendoza 1821, La Boca), Teatro 25 de Mayo (Triunvirato 4444, Villa Urquiza), Centro Cultural Recoleta (Junin 1930) and the Teatro Presidente Alvear (Av. Corrientes 1659) are part of the circuit. The new Meeting Point is one of the most famous examples of Art Deco in Buenos Aires, a building designed in the '20s by the legendary architect Alejandro Virasoro. Located in the heart of the City (Bartolome Mitre 575), this Meeting Point will concentrate a large number of concerts, dance classes and special events: parties and milongas, lectures, screenings, permanent exhibitions and trade shows for more than ten hours daily.
The rounds of the World Dance Championship will take place in La Trastienda (Balcarce 460) and Teatro Coliseo (M.T. de Alvear 1125), while the two major finals of Tango Salon and Tango Escenario will take place at the legendary Luna Park stadium (Av. Madero 420), on Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st August.

FREE TICKETS FOR SHOWS AND ACTIVITIES:
All activities and shows in Buenos Aires Tango are with free admission, subject to the capacity of every venue.
Tickets for the shows that are performed in the Teatro de la Ribera, Teatro Presidente Alvear, Teatro 25 de Mayo and Galileo Galilei Planetarium will be handed on Wednesday, August 4, from 11am to 7pm, at Casa de la Cultura, Av de Mayo 575. Up to 2 tickets per person for a maximum of two shows will be handed.
For the Semifinals and Finals of the World Tango Dance Championship categories Tango Salon and Stage to be held at Teatro Coliseo and Luna Park Stadium, tickets will be handed on Monday, August 16, from 11am to 7pm in Casa de la Cultura, Avenida de Mayo 575. Qualifying Rounds to be held in La Trastienda do not require advanced tickets. Admission is first come basis until filling the capacity of the venue.
Do not require advance tickets either the shows presented in the Meeting Point of Tango Buenos Aires, La Trastienda, and Centro Cultural Recoleta. Admission to these venues is on a first come basis until capacity limits for each location is reached.

Celebration of National Tango Day 2009

The National Tango Day will be celebrated next Friday, December 11 2009, with free presentations in different parts of the city by Buenos Aires Orquesta del Tango and Buenos Aires Symphonic Band, Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce, and the final of the Hugo del Carril tango contest.

The celebration starts at 1 pm, with a concert by Orquesta del Tango de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires at Paseo Ástor Piazzolla (Av. Roque Sáenz Peña between Cerrito and Libertad). The Orchestra will be conducted by Raúl Garello, Néstor Marconi and Juan Carlos Cuacci, with the special participation of singer Susana Rinaldi and the winners of the contrest Hugo del Carril 2008, singers Verónica Marchetti and Macelo Costa and dance couple Sergio Fernández and Liz Dorin. The repertoire will consist of: "Pa que bailen los muchachos", "Tal vez será su voz", "Dandy", "Uno", "Buen amigo", "Che bandoneón", "La última curda", "Buenos Aires", "Es tu fiesta", "Viva el tango" and "Don Juan". The concert will also include a selection of "candombes".

Later, at 4 pm, the final of the XVII Hugo del Carril Contest 2009 will be held at Amphitheater Eva Perón, in Parque Del Centenario, with the competition for the categories of Singing (male and female), Salon Dancing and Instrumental Groups.

At 7 pm, the Buenos Aires Symphonic Band, in Florida and Santa Fe, will offer a concert of traditional tangos like "El firulete", "Taquito militar", "Gricel", "Verano porteño", "Auténtico Buenos Aires", and "La cumparsita", among others. The band will be conducted by Lito Valle and José Luis Cladera, and the show will be completed with the choreography of dancers Paola Larrondo and Víctor Nieva.

Also at 7 pm, ath the Auditorium of Biblioteca Nacional (Agüero 2502), the Orchestra Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce will offer a free show, with direction of Néstor Marconi.

All the shows will be free of charge and the open air events will not be suspended for rain.
