Immigrants Day Celebration

The Government of the City of Buenos Aires organizes the Immigrants Day Celebration, with an open air festival at the park surrounding the Planetarium Galileo Galilei (Av. Sarmiento & Figueroa Alcorta), on Sunday, September 18th, 2011.
More than 40 groups representing the different communities that reside in the city of Buenos Aires will offer their typical dances, gastronomy and culture, in an event for the whole family.
At 11 am, representatives of the different communities will participate in a parade around the Rose Garden's lake with their typical costumes, accompanied by antique cars.
On a large stage at the Planetarium the Music Band of the Metropolitan Police will play popular songs, followed by a dance show by more than 500 artists from 40 communities.
There will be 100 stands offering typical crafts, regional products, and traditional food and drinks.
The "Immigrants Day" was instituted on September 4, 1949, with the purpose of paying a permanent and public tribute to the immigrants of all times.
The celebrations will start at 11.00 am. In case of rain it will be postponed to Sunday 25th.

Recommended Concerts July through December, 2011

Numerous international concerts have already been announced for the second half of the year 2011 in Buenos Aires. Since tickets for some of the biggest ones (like Aerosmith and Eric Clapton) are already on sale and are likely to get sold out in the upcoming weeks, I decided to post at once about all the concerts from July until the end of the year.
Please keep checking on this post for updates since many events that are yet to be confirmed may be added soon, like the announced return of Paul McCartney and concerts by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Tears for Fears, Ringo Starr, Katy Perry, as well as the program for the Pepsi Music Festival, Personal Fest and Hot Festival.

Contact me if you need help getting tickets for any of these concerts or to book transfers to the concerts in the city of La Plata.

Motocross exhibition on Av. 9 de Julio

For the first time the Red Bull X-Fighters Jams come to Buenos Aires to startle audiences this Saturday, September 24th, 2011, on Ave 9 de Julio between Viamonte and Tucuman.

The dizzying display of jumps and freestyle motocross tricks is a full sample of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour, which for several years has become virtually the world championship in the field. Created back in 2001, the Red Bull X-Fighters concept has grown to become the biggest and most respected freestyle motocross tour on the planet. While the world’s best riders throw down mad tricks in stunning locations across the globe, local riders are hard at work bringing FMX to brand new countries with a series of Red Bull X-Fighters Jams. These events already have cult status in the cities they have visited, with top riders from the region joining some of the finest shooting stars from the international scene to put on an insane show in front of tens of thousands of people.

This time they will do it in Buenos Aires, opposite the legendary Teatro Colón, with a spectacular display of backflips, and an incredible array of tricks with names as provoking as "deadbody", "kiss of death", "superman" and "tsunami". A specially set ramp will propel the riders - individually, in pairs or in groups - to about nine meters high, to make the most incredible stunts, to complete the flight about 23 meters ahead on another ramp called "receiver".

The event starts at 3:00 pm, but make sure to be there early to secure a good viewing spot. Entrance is free.

Rice Performance by Stan’s Cafe arrives in Buenos Aires

On Thursday 7th July 2011, the provocative theater company Stan’s Cafe will be arriving at Palais de Glace in Buenos Aires with 10 tons of rice to present "Of All The People In All The World" for the first time in Latin America. Over the course of ten days three members of the company, dressed in smart caretaker uniforms, will carefully measure out the rice into labelled piles, representing over two hundred provocative statistics.

Of All The People In All The World uses grains of rice to bring abstract statistics to life. Each grain of rice = one person, and you are invited to compare the one grain that is you to the millions that are not. Over a period of days a team of performers carefully weigh out quantities of rice to represent a host of human statistics

- the populations of towns and cities
- the number of doctors, the number of soldiers
- the number of people born each day, the number who die
- all the people who have walked on the moon
- deaths in the holocaust

The statistics are arranged in labelled piles creating an ever changing landscape of rice. The show adapts to its setting: the country, city and building it is in. The exhibition isn’t like a museum or an art gallery, it changes over time and responds to its audience.

The amount of rice used varies according to which version is performed, Of All The People In All The World: UK is a standard small version using 1,000Kg of rice to represent 60,000,000 people. Of All The People In All The World: Europe at 12,000Kg is an example of a medium size version. So far there has been a single presentation of Of All The People In All The World in which the whole world's population was represented by 104 tons of rice in Stuttgart.

The promoter of the show in Buenos Aires, Arroz Gallo, will donate the same amount of rice that will be used for the exhibition (equivalent to 100,000 portions of rice) to the foundation Banco de Alimentos, that will distribute them among 489 charities, including foster homes, schools, and other community centers.

Stan’s Cafe is a theatre company based in Birmingham whose witty and provocative work has been cropping up in unusual settings since 1991.
