2020 Virtual World Tango Festival and World Tango Dance Competition

The highly anticipated World Tango Festival and World Tango Dance Competition adapt their formats this year to the current Covid-19 situation, so all of those who wish to participate can do it from their own homes and from anywhere in the world. The events will take place online from August 26th to August 30th through the Festival's website and social media. 

The call for the World Tango Dance Competition is open to dancers (single or in couples) over 18 years of age, of any nationality, for the categories Estilo Tango de Pista and Estilo Tango Escenario. The participation will be through a video recorded in the context of their homes and respecting the legal regulations in force for the pandemic at their respective cities. 

Submissions will be received between August 15th and August 22nd, 2020. In the category Estilo Tango de Pista, the Participants must dance to "Paciencia", by Juan D’ Arienzo and his orchestra with Alberto Echagüe. Only the version of the son on this link will be accepted. 
In the category Estilo Tango Escenario, the dancer or the couple can choose the theme to dance, which duration must not exceed four (4) minutes.

A panel of experts will select the best 10 participants in Estilo Tango de Pista and the best 5 in Estilo Tango Escenario. On August 26th all the finalist will be announced on the Festival's website, and the public will be able to vote for their favorites until August 30th. The participants with more votes will be the winners of the Dance Championship.

The World Tango Festival will feature more than 200 online contents by renowned local artists, like Amelita Baltar, Juan Carlos Copes, José Colangelo, Walter Ríos, María Nieves and Nicolás Ledesma. The Opening will honor the Women of Tango. The Festival will also pay tribute to Astor Piazzolla, Mariano Mores, Aníbal Troilo and Osvaldo Pugliese, and to dancers such as Juan Carlos Copes, Los Dinzel, María Nieves, and Gloria Arquimbau. It will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of Argentine radio.

The classic Milongas and Dance Lessons will be offered in virtual format.

French Market in Recoleta - March 2020


NOTICE: AS PART OF THE PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN SUSPENDED.


The first edition of the year of the authentic French Market "Le Marché" will be installed in Plaza Francia, on Av. Del Libertador between Dr. Luis Agote & Av. Pueyrredón on Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th, 2020, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Over 25 gastronomic stalls run by some of the most renowned French chefs and restaurants in Argentina will be offering their special dishes characteristic of the French cuisine, such as boeuf bourguignon, carbonade flamande, crêpes, raclette, quiches, onion soup. Visitors will have the chance to taste and purchase French bakeries and different specialties, like macarons, croissants, éclairs, croque-monsieur, pains au chocolat, crème brûlée, tarte Tatin, Paris-Brest, and much more!


There will be a sector dedicated to French produce, like artisan cheese, cold cuts, bread, mustard, jams, among many other delicacies.



Live French music shows, talks, tastings and activities for kids will be presented during the weekend.

Gourmet Festival and Horse Racing - March 2020



A new edition of the Gourmet Festival “Apetito” will take place on Saturday, March 7th from 12:00 noon to 1:00 AM; and Sunday, March 8th, from 12.00 noon to 11.00 PM, at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo (Av. del Libertador & Dorrego).

The best cooks and beer brewers will get together with more than 30 food trucks offering hamburgers, crepes, pulled, pork, bagels, Mexican food, empanadas, fish, vegetarian food, pizzas, smoothies, hot dogs, ice cream, coffee, and more!

In Case of rain the The Gourmet Festival will take place on Friday March 13th, from 6:00 PM to 1:00 am, and Saturday March 14th, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 AM .


At the same time, on Saturday 7th, from 12 noon, Palermo Race Track presents "A Day at the Races", a special journey presenting the the Group 2 Classics Arturo R. & Arturo Bullrich for 3+ year old mares; and Otoño, for all 3+ horses, both on 2000 meters, as well as the Classics Saturnino J. Unzué (G2) & Santiago Luro (G2), (1200 meters), among other races, in a special journey that will also feature and Art exhibition; a Designer´s Fair; entertainment for kids; and a fashion show dedicated to sustainable design and Inclusion, at Tribuna Oficial at 5:00 PM.

During the afternoon, visitors will also have the chance to learn about the history and architecture of this emblematic site in the city of Buenos Aires, on a guided tour led by specialized guides, that will be available at 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM (previous registration at the Stand located at the entrance on Av. Dorrrego required).

St Patrick's Day Celebration 2020


Every March 17th, the most important day in its calendar, Ireland celebrates its patron saint, Saint Patrick. This special date will be celebrated once again in Buenos Aires, this year a few days earlier, on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 with a big Fair and Street Parade organized by the Irish - Argentine Association, on Avenida de Mayo and Bolivar in downtown Buenos Aires.

The event will start at 12:00 noon, with the opening of the Celtic and Nordic Fair, with more than 50 stalls offering typical Irish products, books, crafts and traditional food such as and Colcannon, Boxty and Coddle, among many other specialties.

The traditional Saint Patrick's Day Parade will start at 3:00 pm, when the representatives of the Irish groups residing in Argentina will march towards the large stage. Visitors are encouraged to wear green to accompany the parade.


The Marching Bands of the Argentine Army and Patricios Regiment will also participate in this event, in honor of the Irish born Admiral William (Guillermo) Brown, founder of the Argentine Army.


During the day different shows will be presented on the main stage, including traditional folk dances, music and pipes. A band paying tribute to U2 that will perform their most well known songs. Several Irish artists will be present together with Argentine musicians, finalizing at 7:30 pm.

The Irish community in Argentina is one of the largest in the world (calculated in 500,000 people). In recent years the celebration of St Patrick’s Day has been extended to most of the Pubs in Buenos Aires and all Argentina. Teatro Colon 2020 Season



The prestigious TEATRO COLON OF BUENOS AIRES, one of the most important Opera Houses in the world, has announced its 2020 SEASON PROGRAM.

The Season will consist of 8 Opera presentations (one of them in concert version); 5 Ballets, a celebration of the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven, with the Festival Beethoven in November; the presence of Martha Argerich, Gustavo Dudamel y Charles Dutoit; the Philharmonic Orchestra concert series, invited orchestras; concerts for children; and performances at Usina del Arte and Auditorio de Belgrano.

At the summer program "Star Wars. A new hope in Concert", a co-production between Teatro Colon and Disney, that will take place on February 27th, 28th and 29th, families will enjoy the music composed by John Williams with musical direction by Enrique Arturo Diemecke in front of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, accompanied by projection of the film. BUENOS AIRES PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA 

The Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra (OFBA), conducted by Maestro Enrique Arturo Diemecke, will offer a series of 19 concerts throughout the year, with the celebration of the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven as the main theme of the concert season, with the participation of outstanding soloists and guest conductors, such as: Martha Argerich, Boris Giltburg, Ray Chen, Ingrid Fliter y Midori, Pinchas Steinberg, el suizo Charles Dutoit, Emmanuel Villaume y Alexander Vedernikov, among others.

FESTIVAL BEETHOVEN

The Festival Beethoven will feature the integral of his five Concerts for piano and orchestra, with the participation of Martha Argerich and guest artists, such as Chales Dutoit, Homero Francesch, Dong Hyek Lim and Lars Vogt. The concerts will take place on November 7, 13, 17 and 19. 

INTERNATIONAL GUEST PERFORMERS

The series of Great International Performers will consist of 6 concerts and recitals, with Mahler Chamber Orchestra, conducted by maestro Gustavo Dudamel; Viktoria Mullova (violin) with the orchestra Moscow Virtuosi; Mariella Devia (soprano), Pretty Yende (soprano); Philippe Jaroussky (countertenor); and Tokio Geidai Philarmonia Orchestra.

The 2020 season will feature 3 Symphonic-Choral concerts, presenting the Permanent Choir together with the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Children’s Choir and the Permanent Orchestra, with works by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Igor Stravinsky, and Ludwig van  Beethoven.

Domingos de Camara - Intérpretes Argentinos. A Series of FREE concerts on determined Sundays at 11 am, by renowned Argentine chamber groups at the main concert hall of Teatro Colón.
Free tickets must be picked up the Friday previous to each concert, from 9 am to 8 pm. Only 2 tickets per person will be given out, limited to the theater's capacity.


The 2020 Season will come complete with the program Colón Contemporáneo (contemporary works); ISATC (Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón) Concerts, a series of performances for kids and the whole family (Colon Para Chicos); the concert series Colon en La Ciudad with concerts at different locations around the city; recitals at Salon Dorado (Golden Hall.

ATP Buenos Aires Argentina Open 2020



The ATP Buenos Aires tournament "Argentina Open 2020", will kick off with the Qualifying rounds on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday February 9th. The traditional tournament, that is part of the ATP World Tour, will receive some of the greatest world wide tennis players, including Dominic Thiem, Matteo Berrettini, Diego Schwartzman, among others, from February 10th to February 16th, 2020, at the courts of Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

Chinese New Year Celebration 2020



A special festival celebrating the start of the Year of the Rat 2020 will be held on Sunday, February 2nd, 2020, at the park "Plaza Parques Nacionales Argentinos" located on Av. Figueroa Alcorta between Sucre and Echeverria, in the neighborhood of Belgrano, from 12 pm to 8 pm.

This is the most important celebration in the Chinese culture, also known as the Spring Festival. The mega event will feature more than 50 gastronomic and cultural stands where visitors will have the chance to taste traditional Chinese food, and purchase typical Chinese products and souvenirs.

At the main stage several dance and music shows will be presented during the day, including the traditional Dragon Dance and Lion Dance, as well as demonstrations of Oriental martial arts; and a parade showcasing Traditional Chinese costumes.

In case of rain the event will be held on February 9th.

Carnaval Porteño - Buenos Aires Carnival 2020



The 2020 Buenos Aires Carnival (“Carnaval Porteño 2020”) will take place at different neighborhoods every weekend, from Saturday, February 1st until Sunday, February 23rd, and on Carnaval Holidays, Monday, February 24th and Tuesday, February 25th, with the participation of more than 100 "murgas" (carnival bands) and over one thousand drums and percussion instruments.

Murgas and carnival are the artistic expressions of the marginal neighborhoods, their songs and urban folk customs. The lyrics of these songs are called "criticas", and combine the social denunciation with humor and dancing. What identifies the "murga porteña" from others are their costumes (frock coat, gloves, top hat, and stick), the drums with cymbals, and the various traditional rhythms used to differentiate every neighborhood.

The closing of the events will be on Monday, February 24th, with a big parade along Avenida de Mayo, from Bernardo de Yrigoyen to Plaza de Mayo, from 4 PM to 11 PM.

The Carnaval parades will be held on different streets, parks and cultural centers / clubs, all with free entrance to the public. Some of the locations around the city where to watch the parades are:

Chori Fest at Hipodromo de Palermo



The first edition of "Chori Fest", a gastronomic festival dedicated to Choripan in all its varieties, will take place on Friday, January 24th and Saturday, January 25th, 2020 at Hipodromo de Palermo, on Av. del Libertador & Dorrego, in a night edition from 5 pm to 1 am, with free entrance to the public.

More than 40 stands and food trucks will be offering Choripan (the typical Argentinian sausage sandwich) in all its varieties, from traditional to gourmet, produced with different kinds of meat, and prepared with a variety of breads and seasonings.

Chori Fest will also include a sector specially dedicated to other forms of fast food, like empanadas, hot dogs, asado and meat sandwiches; as well as a beer garden, and spaces dedicated to wines, cocktails and natural juices, ice cream and other desserts.

FIBA - International Performing Arts Festival 2020



Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, the International Performing Arts Festival of Buenos Aires (13° Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires - FIBA), will take place between January 23rd  and February 1st, 2020.

The former bi annual event has now been converted into an annual Summer Festival, featuring diverse artistic expressions through contemporary theater, dance and musical theater.
In addition to the line-up of outstanding international guest artists and national productions, there will be many performances in outdoor public spaces. such as the Abasto Marathon, with a varied array of cultural and gastronomic offerings in this neighborhood that is a traditional hub of independent theater, and Ciudanza, a space for dancers to take over urban landscapes, bringing the art of movement close to the audience.

FIBA SECTIONS:

Opening Party:
On Thursday, January 23rd, from 10:00 pm at the Historic Downtown Center. The main event will take place on  Adolfo Alsina between Defensa and Bolívar, next to Museo de la Ciudad, with theater, music and dance performances in the streets.

International and National Productions:
The 13° FIBA will feature national and international productions from Germany, Brasil, France, India, Uruguay, Scotland, Italy, Suitzerland, Spain, Chile, Canada and Colombia. All with a common theme: the colective and individual body.

Abasto Marathon:
On February 1st, from 6.00 pm to 2.00 am, as closing of the Festival, the Abasto Marathon will offer an array of shows outdoors and at traditional theatres in the porteño neighbourhood.
This local neighborhood with a long tradition for independent theater and performing arts will offer a myriad of shows in and outdoors.
In addition to the variety of shows at playhouses in the area, in the streets there will be music, dance, visual arts, interdisciplinary performances and interventions in houses, roofs and shops. Apart from the long list of cultural activities, offered with free admission, a number of bars and restaurants will join in with an array of artistic and gastronomic offerings.

Ciudanza:
Joining FIBA this year, this section will offer performances in diverse urban settings across Buenos Aires. On January 24th, 25th, and 26th, dancers will perform in outdoor public spaces.
With the idea of bringing dance close to the audience and promoting the creativity of choreographers,  a series of short performances will be held in unusual architectonic spaces such as staircases, cliffs, pergolas and all kinds of urban furniture that could be used as a stage.
