Unprecedented exhibition "Gods, rites and crafts from the prehispanic Mexico"

Fundación Proa presents the exhibition "Gods, rites and crafts from the prehispanic México", organized by the Embassy of Mexico in Argentina and sponsored by Tenaris/Organizacion Techint, that will be held until January 8th, 2012.
The exhibit features for the first time in Argentina more than 150 archaeological pieces from different cultures that inhabited the Gulf of Mexico, their gods, their various shapes and representations, the many rituals developed on behalf of them, and crafts exercised by the inhabitants of the area before the Spanish conquest.
According to its curator, David Morales Gómez, the exhibition is "a fine selection of pieces that show the huge variety of ideas, social structure and complexity of an ideology."
From a special selection, with recently recovered pieces never exhibited before, the works impress with their symbolic force and beauty. They belong to the patrimony of 13 museums, two Houses of Culture, an archaeological site and the National Institute Anthropology and History Mexico (INAH).
The exhibition also features the production of those who worked with indispensable sea materials like conch and snail shells to make bracelets, rings and armbands. It includes fragments of mural paintings, which are crucial to grasping the vital, sacred and profane orders of these cultures.

The magnificent Lapacho Rosado announces the arrival of Spring in Buenos Aires

This splendid specimen is one of the most famous trees in Buenos Aires. Popularly known as the "Lapacho de Ezcurra", this "lapacho rosado" (Tabebuia impetiginosa), a tree native from the North-West of Argentina, was planted by landscaper Martin Ezcurra on the corner of Ave. Figueroa Alcorta and Mariscal Castilla, in Palermo Chico, and on September every year announces the arrival of Spring with an explosion of pink flowers:

There are many other specimens of lapachos scattered around Buenos Aires, like the ones below, but the one on Figueroa Alcorta Ave above is the most spectacular of all:

This ephemeral spectacle lasts only a few days, so those who are in Buenos Aires at the end of September / beginning of October  will be the lucky ones to witness it.
