The prestigious TEATRO COLON OF BUENOS AIRES, one of the most important Opera Houses in the world, has announced its 2019 SEASON PROGRAM.

For the first time the Season will start with a summer program for children called Disney in Concert, on February 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2019. With musical direction by Enrique Arturo Diemecke in front of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, the families will enjoy the music from great Disney movies like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, The Lion King, among others, with the special participation of Disney’s characters live, accompanied by projections, dancers, singers, and other special surprises.

OPERA

The Opera Season will present 8 titles, featuring: Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, A Streetcar named Desire by André Previn, Turandot by Giacomo Puccini, Ariadna in Naxos by Richard Strauss, L'incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi, Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti, Orfeo & Euridice by Christoph Willibald Gluck, and the Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach.

BALLET

The Permanent Ballet under the direction of Paloma Herrera, will present 6 titles including classics like Don Quixote - with Bolshoi’s first dancer Evgenia Obraztsova together with Isaac Hernández from the English National Ballet-, and The Corsair; a mix program with music by Tchaikovsky, Bach and Bernstein and choreography by Balanchine, Welch and Robbins; La Sylphide with the guest first dancers from the American Ballet Theatre Misty Copeland and Herman Cornejo; Cinderella; and a new production by Teatro Colón with choreography by Mario Galizzi: The Swan Lake.

CONCERTS

The Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra (OFBA), conducted by Maestro Enrique Arturo Diemecke, will offer a series of 18 concerts throughout the year, with the participation of outstanding soloists and guest conductors, such as: Alexander Romanovsky (piano), Sharon Ishbin (guitar), Filippo Gamba (piano), Alexander Anissimov (director), Horacio Lavandera (piano), Emmanuele Baldini (director and violin), Pacho Flores (trumpet), Tara Erraught (mezzo soprano), John Axelrod (director), Katia and Marielle Labèque (pianists), Andreas Martin Hofmeir, among others.

INTERNATIONAL GUEST PERFORMERS

The series of Great International Performers will consist of 7 concerts and recitals, with the London Symphony Orchestra and its conductor Sir Simon Rattle; the mezzo soprano Elena Garanča; The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Metha will offer three performances, with pianist Martha Argerich as guest soloist on July 27th*; the soprano Aida Garifullina together with the Buenos Aires Philharmonic orchestra; Thomas Hampson with Luca Pisaroni; violin player Anne-Sophie Mutter; and the English Baroque Soloists together with former conductor John Elliot Gardiner.

The 2019 season will also feature 3 Symphonic-Choral concerts, presenting the Permanent Choir together with the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Children’s Choir and the Permanent Orchestra, with works by Mozart, Caamaño and Berlioz.

CHAMBER SUNDAYS

Domingos de Camara - Intérpretes Argentinos. A Series of FREE concerts on determined Sundays at 11 am, by renowned Argentine chamber groups at the main concert hall of Teatro Colón.
Free tickets must be picked up the previous Friday, from 9 am to 8 pm. Only 2 tickets per person will be given out, limited to the theater's capacity.

The 2019 Season will come complete with the program Colón Contemporáneo (contemporary works); ISA (Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón) Concerts, a series of performances for kids and the whole family (Colon Para Chicos); the concert series Colon en La Ciudad with concerts at different locations around the city; and the concerts performed at the Theater by private musical organizations like Mozarteum Argentino.
