American Football in Buenos Aires: Stags vs Los Halcones


According to the news on the Football Americano Argentina website (FAARG), during the last week May 2010, the Claremont McKenna College University Football team, the Stags, will be visiting our country, and will face the Argentine American Football team, "Los Halcones"
On their first trip to South America they will visit Argentina and Uruguay to play the National teams of both countries. 
The match "Stags vs Halcones" will be held at Club Centro Naval, Av Arroyo Cantilo and Medrano, Buenos Aires, on Saturday May 29, 2010, at 11:00 am.

Youth Culture Festival Ciudad Emergente 2010


The third edition of Ciudad Emergente, the Festival of the youth culture, will take place from Wednesday 2 to Sunday 6 June, 2010 at Centro Cultural Recoleta.

This Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, presents the new expressions of the youth culture: rock, pop, street art, animation, poetry, cinema and digital art.

The activities in the festival include: fashion shows by the winners of the contest "Moda Emergente" (Emerging Fashion); events that combine poetry and music; street art; hip hop and other dance style shows; movie screenings with a program related to national and international rock and roll; fashion and digital art exhibitions; chill out lounges; music concerts.

Admission is free of charge for all the activities. Limited capacity.

Main events for the celebration of Argentina's Bicentennial - Update

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the May Revolution, the national government has designed the Bicentennial Walk, that will be put up on Avenida 9 de Julio, between Corrientes and Belgrano,. The festivities will be held on May 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25, 2010. The main event will be held on May 25, with a proposal that combines tradition and innovation with the participation of artistic groups, musicians, and designers.

The presidents of Uruguay, Jose Mujica; Chile, Sebastián Piñera, Venezuela, Hugo Chavez; Ecuador, Rafael Correa, and probably the Brazilian president Inacio Lula da Silva, will participate of the festivities.

Participating countries are the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Cuba, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, Uruguay, Peru, Italy, France, Spain, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Bolivia, which will have their own spaces and offer performances as part of the artistic and Integration Parade on 23 May.

There will also be a Fair of the Provinces, in which each one will reveal its identity, what distinguishes it, as their crafts, gastronomy and natural beauty. They will all participate in the Federal Parade of the May 22 and in artistic performances. There will also be a special place for the so-called Province 25, consisting of the million and half of Argentines living abroad, and for the Province of the Future, a special space for the active participation of children.

Within the Fair of the Provinces there will be a booth symbolizing the Nation, organizer of the festivities, and one for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, home of the May Revolution of 1810.

At Paseo de los Sabores (Walk of Flavors) each province and each community will market their products and typical native gastronomic products, as preserves, sausages, sweets, dishes, oils, liqueurs, etc.

There will also be six Thematic Portals, that will function as gateways to the Walk, and in which artists will symbolize the access to history, the Bicentennial, and the life of Argentina, addressing subjects such as Human Rights, Identity, Work, Culture, Democracy and institutions.

8 PM: Opening show: Homage to Argentine Rock, with Litto Nebbia, Fito Paez, Leon Gieco, Luis Alberto Spinetta
 
SATURDAY, MAY 22 

12 PM: Military Parade: It will feature the participation of bands from regiments, squadrons of mounted cavalry, Army units with historical costumes and the flags' squadron.
3 PM: Federal Parade: Involving all provinces with their representative parades, street musicians, floats, bands, carriages, etc.
8 PM: Show at the main stage: Latin American music, with Gilberto Gil, Jaime Roos, Pablo Milanes (to be confirmed), Leon Gieco.

SUNDAY, MAY 23 

12 PM: Integration Parade: Participation of communities and invited countries, as representatives of the fraternal union of peoples and the integration of Argentina with Latin America and the world. Dance, music and shows.
8 PM: Show at the main stage: Tango and Folklore: Soledad Pastorutti, Gustavo Santaolalla,Victor Heredia, Teresa Parodi, Liliana Herrero, Peteco Carabajal, and tango orchestras. (Suspended for rain, reprogrammed for Monday 24)

MONDAY, MAY 24

2 PM: Parade of Antique cars and motorcycles
3 PM: Re-programmed Tango and Folk show:  Soledad Pastorutti, Gustavo Santaolalla,Victor Heredia, Teresa Parodi, Liliana Herrero, Peteco Carabajal, and tango orchestras.
4.30 PM: Live transmission on large screens, located at the three stages, of the Farewell match Argentina vs Canada
8 PM: Show at the main stage: National Symphony Orchestra
11.45 PM: Light and music show at the Cabildo (Plaza de Mayo)

TUESDAY, MAY 25 

2 PM: Sports cars TC200 exhibition. Symbolic start from the Obelisk
6.30 PM: Light and music show at the Cabildo (Plaza de Mayo)
7 PM: May Revolution Parade: This will be the main event, a proposal that combines tradition and innovation with the participation of artistic groups, musicians, and designers. More than 2000 artists will participate in the parade beginning at the central Plaza de Mayo and will culminate in the Avenida 9 de Julio, with themed scenes narrating our history.
There are 19 scenes, narrating a journey through 200 years of history which is commemorated on this date, with a stunning theatrical display.
8 PM: Closing Show at the main stage: Fito Paez.
