Ballet Argentino, the company directed by Julio Bocca, will offer a series of performances from September 9th to 21st, 2008, at Teatro Maipo Buenos Aires, starring Eleonora Cassano, Hernan Piquin, and Cecilia Figaredo. These shows are part of a tour that includes cities around Argentina and Spain.

Program:

Nine Sinatra Songs:
This first part commemorates the traditional dancing ball room with a strong female participation. This work has become one of the classics by Twyla Tharp, with reminiscences of the social dancing of the 50's through the nostalgic look of the 80's. With choreography by Twyla Tharp and costume design by Oscar de la Renta. The songs, sung by Frank Sinatra, are: Softly, Strangers, One for my baby, My way, Something stupid, All the way, Domani, That’s life and My way.

Tango:
In 1975 Oscar Araiz created a ballet based on Argentine Tango, in a way no other choreographer could ever do. The traditional tangos were arranged by composer Atilio Stampone: Responso (Anibal Troilo), La puñalada (Pintin Castellanos), Silbando (Piana y Castillo), El día que me quieras (Carlos Gardel, Alfredo Le Pera), Mi refugio (J.C. Cobian) and El choclo (Angel Villoldo). Costume design by Renata Schussheim.

Bésame:
With choreography by Ana María Stekelman, Bésame is based on the bolero Bésame mucho, composed by Consuelo Velázquez in 1940, at the age of 24. Costume design also by Renata Schussheim.

If I had been in Buenos Aires in September, I would definitely have watched one of the ballet performances.
