Celebrations for the Argentine Independence 1816-2016

Several special events will be held over the weekend for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Argentina, that is celebrated on July 9th 2016. The festivities start on Friday July 8th, which will also be a national holiday, and will last until Sunday 10th.

FRIDAY 8

11 am to 6 pm: Festival with wopular music and dance, parades with typical costumes, artisan products, typical food like pastelitos and empanadas on Av. de Mayo & Bolivar.

1.30 pm: 25 historic buses (colectivos) manufactured between 1925 and 1988 will mark the start of the July 9th celebrations, starting from Av. Juan de Garay & Bernardo de Irigoyen, going through the path of the Metrobus up to Marcelo T de Alvear & Cerrito (Plaza Libertad), where they will stay in exhibition from 2.30 pm until 6.30 pm.
At 6.30 pm the buses will start running again, stopping first in front of Teatro Colón, marking the start of the Historic Gala, and continuing towards Av. San Juan & Bernardo de Yrigoyen, where more historic buses will join the motorcade that will travel along  Ave San Juan, Paseo Colón, L. N. Alem, Av. del Libertador, Figueroa Alcorta, up to the Spaniards´ Monument,  where they will park on Av. Sarmiento.

8.30 pm: “The Night of the 200 Years”: Celebration at Plaza Vaticano (next to Teatro Colón). More than 400 artists will offer a mega-concert, with the participation of renowned Argentine musicians; areal choreographs; children´s choir and tenors from Teatro Colon, "Malambo" by the permanent ballet of Teatro Colon; Tango Shows; mapping on the facade of the theater, and much more.
With the participation of: Sandra Mihanovich, Raúl Lavié, Maximiliano Guerra, César Isella, David Lebón, Tomás Lipán, Opus Cuatro, Malevo, ballet Sentires, Marcos Ayala; Banda Tacuarí of Regiment 1° Patricios, among many others.


SATURDAY 9

10 am to 5 pm: The neighborhood of San Telmo celebrates Independence Day with a charity Regional Food Fair, and an exhibition of Antique and Classic cars on Defensa Street, between Av. Independencia and Av. San Juan.

3.30 pm to 8.30 pm: "Los patios del Bicentenario". Music shows at the Planetarium (Av. Sarmiento & Av Figueroa Alcorta). With the participation of: King Coya (which combines folklore, electronic music and Colombian cumbia); & La Bomba de Tiempo (drums).


SUNDAY 10

11 am: A Military parade with the participation of 6000 officers pertaining to the marching bands from nine invited countries will be held on Avenida de Libertador between Sanchez de Bustamante and Av. Dorrego, to finalize with an exhibition at the Polo Field.
President Mauricio Macri will lead the ceremony accompanied by the Heads of State of different countries.
The invited military bands from Uruguay, Brazil, Perú, Chile, United States, France, Spain and Italy, among others, will present a repertoire representative of the music of their respective countries, ending at 2 pm in a carousel presenting different formations at the Polo Field on Av. del Libertador & Dorrego.
