Guitars of the World International Festival 2009

The “XV Festival Internacional Guitarras del Mundo 2009” (15th Guitars of the World International Festival 2009), will take place from October 6th through October 18th, 2009, with free entrance to the public.
For the past 15 years, the Festival "Guitarras del Mundo" has remained the biggest world wide event dedicated to guitars and guitar players, in which over 700 artists have participated and 36 countries from America, Europe, Asia and Africa have been represented.
"Guitarras del Mundo" features regional music from around the world as well as new musical pieces, promoting at the same time meetings among different guitar schools.
In this year's edition local and international guitar players will offer over 100 concerts with free entrance in 84 venues around the country. Some of the prestigious artists that will participate in the festival are: Juanjo Dominguez, Jorge Cardoso, Rudi, Nini Flores, Ricardo Moyano, Juan Falú (Argentina); Janne Lehtinen and Pentti Hilden (Finland); Bandini-Chiacchiaretta Duo and Stefano Raponi (Italy); Iliana Matos and Eduardo Martin (Cuba); Cem Duruöz and Serkán Yilmaz (Turkey); Ignacio López, José Luis Martinez, Rosalía Royo (Spain); Dale Kavanagh (Canada); Eduardo Fernández (Uruguay); Elias Esper (Argentina-Syria); Nora Buschmann (Germany); Juan Carlos Laguna (Mexico); Dolores Costoyas (Argentina-Switzerland).

In the city of Buenos Aires, the concerts will take place in the following venues:
  • Teatro Nacional Cervantes (Libertad 815). October 7, 8, 9 and 10, 9 PM
  • Espacio Tucumán (Suipacha 140). October 17, 8 PM
  • Biblioteca Nacional (Auditorio Jorge Luis Borges, Agüero 2502). October 18, 5 PM
The closing of the Festival, with the participation of more than 30 Argentine and international guitar players in a variety of styles and musical genres, will take place at Teatro Argentino de La Plata (Calle 51 entre 9 y 10), on October 18, 7.30 PM.

Pecha Kucha Night Buenos Aires Vol. 15


On Tuesday, October 27, 2009, Ciudad Cultural Konex presents the fifteenth edition of Pecha Kucha Night, a “showcasing + networking” event created in Japan in 2003 by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, in which 12-15 creators from different disciplines have 6 minutes and 40 seconds each to show an idea or project, through 20 images screened for 20 seconds. Once the presentations are finished, the guest artists get together to exchange their opinions, and the public is invited to enjoy some music and conversation.

Buenos Aires celebrates nomination of Tango as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity with an Open Air Milonga

Tango has been declared by Unesco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Celebrating this event, the Ministry of Culture of the city of Buenos Aires organizes an Open Air Milonga on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October 2009, at the emblematic corner of San Juan and Boedo, with the participation of renowned Argentinian and Uruguayan artists like Susana Rinaldi and Rubén Rada, among others.

The declaration was approved at Unesco's fourth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).

Saturday 3

7.00 pm: "Típica" singers.
7.45 pm: Exhibition by the World Tango Salón Champions 2009: Hiroshi and Kyoko Yamao.
8.00 pm: Gran Milonga Popular.
9.00 pm: Milonga with live orchestra, presenting Vale Tango. Ariel Ardit and Esteban Riera will present the tango “Veredas de las dos orillas” specially composed for this occasion. Guest artist: Malena Muyala.

12th Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture

The 12th Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture BA09 will take place from October 3rd to 12th at the Recoleta Cultural Center, bringing together the world's most prominent architects, and turning the city of Buenos Aires into the center of the global architecture for ten days.
The Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture, that takes place since 1985, is one of the most important exhibitions along with the Venice and San Pablo Biennials.
The exhibition of works will be held from October 3rd to 12th. A series of conferences will take place from Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th, where invited speakers will show their works, share their experiences and creative processes.
Like in previous Biennials, architects, critics and theorists from Argentina and different countries have been invited including, among others:
