BAFICI - 12th Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema

The twelfth edition of the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI) organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, will take place from April 7 to April 18, 2010, under the artistic direction of Sergio Wolf.

In this new edition 422 films will be screened in the 12 venues of the City of Buenos Aires that are hosting the festival. In this edition, the Festival continues with the Baficito Section successfully inaugurated in 2009 with programming dedicated to kids, who have the task of choosing the winning film through public vote. An addition this year is the Animationbox workshop in which children will make their own animated shorts, which will be projected toward the end of the Festival.

The opening of the Festival will be held again at the Teatro 25 de Mayo with the screening of the Argentinian film "Secuestro y Muerte", by Rafael Filippelli. The film narrates the last 72 hours in the life of General Aramburu before being tried and executed by Montoneros. The closing film will be "Convicted", by the Catalonian director Isaki Lacuesta, which addresses the relationship between two generations linked to armed struggle in the Latin American jungle, in the search for the remains of a comrade killed thirty years ago.

The national cinema will be present at this edition with a total of 44 feature films and 42 shorts, three of which participate in the International Competition.

The Open Air Cinema section will offer twelve free screenings at Pasaje Carlos Gardel, and four films for children on Saturdays and Sundays at Plaza San Martín de Tours, under the Baficito.

The Modern Classics section continues, where great films in new copies will be restored. As special events, there will be various talks, seminars, concerts and book presentations. All with free entrance.
