BAFICI - Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival 2019



The 21st edition of the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI) organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, will take place from April 3rd to April 14th, 2019, with a program featuring hundreds of independent films from every continent, for all tastes and ages, including world premieres, classics and movies for kids.

The opening night will be on Wednesday, April 3rd, at the Amphitheater of Parque Centenario, with the projection of the movie Claudia by Sebastián De Caro.

This year the main venue of the Festival will be the cinema complex Multiplex Belgrano, and the meeting point at Museo de Arte Español Enrique Larreta (Av. Juramento & Obligado), where visitors will be able to enjoy open air films screenings and live music shows among many other activities.

Some of the Sections in the Festival are:

° International, Latin American & Argentinian Competitions.

° Panorama: the biggest section in the Festival, organized in themes like Music, Nocturne, Passion, Movies about Movies, Comedy, Artists in Action, Places, Opera Prima, among others.

° Baficito (Little Bafici): In this edition, the Festival continues with the Baficito Section successfully inaugurated in 2009 with programming dedicated to kids.

° Marathon Bafici: This year the Festival will feature the Marathon BAFICI on April 6th from 2:00 pm to 12:00 am, and on April 7th from  2:00 pm to 9:00 pm, a 2-day event that will take place in the neighborhood of Belgrano, on Juramento between Cabildo & Cuba, with FREE open air cinema, interactive activities, participative installations, visual arts on walls, recitals, workshops, classes, and much more.

° Buenos Aires Lab: The Buenos Aires Lab (BAL) is BAFICI’s platform for the development and co-production of film projects aimed at supporting the production, sales and distribution of Latin American cinema.

Free drive-in movies at the Rosedal



As every year, a drive-in movie theater will be set up at the Rosedal (Rose Garden), on Av Libertador & Sarmiento.  On February 7, 8, 9 and 10, from 7.00 pm, the gates will open for the cars to take their places until reaching the full capacity of 300 vehicles. The sound of the movies will be broadcast in stereo on the 107.3 Frequency.
There will also be a sector for spectators without a car, with chairs and hassocks, or visitors can bring their own chairs and blankets.
Food and drinks will be available at the Food Court.

BAFICI 2017 - Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival


The nineteenth edition of the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI) organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, will take place from April 19th to April 30th, 2017, with a program that features more than 400 films from every continent and for all tastes and ages, including more than 100 world premieres. 

The Festival will be held at 32 different venues around the city, including: Village Recoleta and Caballito, Arte Multiplex Belgrano, Cultural San Martín, Malba, Fundación Proa, Espacio INCAA Cine Gaumont; Usina del Arte, and the Amphitheater of de Parque Centenario, Plaza Francia and the terrace of Centro Cultural Recoleta, with free open air screenings.
Centro Cultural Recoleta will be the main venue with exhibitions, book presentations, activities for children, and more.

The opening of the Festival will be on April 19th with Casting (Germany, 2017) by Nicolas Wackerbarth, The closing of the Festival will be with the documentary film L'Opéra de Paris (France - Switzerland, 2017) by Jean-Stéphane Bron

Britannia Lado B: 40 years of Punk: series sponsored by the British Council, about English Punk, with the projection in 35mm of The filth and the fury (UK - USA, 2000), by Julien Temple, about the musical career of Sex Pistols, and the new movie by Don Letts as a world premiere.

International Guests: some of the renowned international guest artists and directors this year are: Nanni Moretti, Alex Ross Perry, Claude Barras, Heinz Emigholz, Stéphane Brizé, Johannes Nyholm, Denis Côté, Gabriel Abrantes,  Julio Hernández Cordón,  João Moreira Salles, Lucrecia Martel.

Tickets are on sale via the Festival´s website, or in person at Village Recoleta, Vicente Lopez & Junin, from 10 am to 8 pm.
The price of the general admission is AR$45, and AR$30 for students and pensioners. 
At the Venues Cine.Ar Gaumont, Centro Cultural San Martín, Village Caballito, Artemultiplex and Malba, tickets will be on sale from April 20th. 

Conferences at the El Aleph Auditorium and Microcine at Recoleta Cultural Center, and outdoors screenings are all free and don’t require a ticket. They are on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to room capacity.

For free screenings, conferences, and events in the rest of the venues tickets must be picked at Bafici’s Information Stand of the corresponding venue, a maximum of two per person, one hour before the show.

For professional clinics at Usina del Arte and the Little Bafici workshops, you can previously sign up at buenosaires.gob.ar/festivales. Limited capacity.

Tickets for the free screening of Cemento - El documental will be available for pick up from 10 a.m. on the day of the show, at Village Recoleta.

French Week in Buenos Aires 2016




The French Week in Buenos Aires "Vivi Francia 2016" will take place from Saturday September 17th to Sunday September 25th, 2016, organized by the French-Argentine Commerce and Industry Chamber (CCIFA), and sponsored by the French Embassy and the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, with a series of activities to enjoy French culture, art, gastronomy, fashion, music and architecture, free and open to all.

Some of the most outstanding scheduled activities are:

VISIT TO THE FRENCH EMBASSY:
Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm: Joining the celebration of European Heritage Days (Journées Européennes du Patrimoine), the French Embassy in Argentina will open its doors to the public. This will allow visitors to discover the Palace Ortiz Basualdo (photo), home to the French Embassy since 1939, built by French architect Paul Parter in 1912.
Besides the main entrance and the honor staircase, the public will be invited to visit the reception halls in the first floor, which make the Palace Ortiz Basualdo a significant example of the French influence in the Argentine architecture.
Accessing the second floor, visitors will admire the main dining room, the music room in a Louis XV style with Chinese decoration, the ball room, its mirrors and its painted boards, as well as the XVI century English style winter garden.
The French Embassy is located in Cerrito 1399, Recoleta.

During these two days a French Market will be installed next to the Embassy, on Cerrito & Arroyo, offering typical French specialties, crafts and live French music:

Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm: Visitors will have the chance to taste and purchase French bakeries and different specialties of the French cuisine, such as boeuf bourguignon, blanquette de veau, croque-monsieur, crêpes, soupe à l’oignon, cheese, as well as pastries, tarte aux pommes, financiers, macarons, chocolate, viennoiseries, pithiviers, gateau au chocolat, and much more, in over 20 gastronomic stalls.

BAFICI - 18th Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema

The eighteenth edition of the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI) organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, will take place from April 13th to April 24th, 2016, with a program that features more than 400 films from every continent and for all tastes and ages, including 81 world premieres. 

The Festival will be held on 27 different venues around the city, including: Village Recoleta and Caballito, Arte Multiplex Belgrano, Cultural San Martín, Malba, Planetario, Fundación Proa, Espacio INCAA Cine Gaumont; and the Amphitheater of de Parque Centenario and the terrace of Centro Cultural Recoleta, with free open air screenings.
The Teatro Colón will host the concert by the prestigious pianist and composer Michel Legrand, special guest of the Festival.
Centro Cultural Recoleta will be the main venue with exhibitions, book presentations, activities for children, and more.

The opening of the Festival will be on April 13th with Le fils de Joseph (France, 2016), by Eugène Green, The closing of the Festival will be with the film Miles ahead (USA, 2015), by Don Cheadle, a biopic on one of the most influential musicians in the history of jazz.

International Competition: includes 18 films from around the world, most of them world premieres.

Latin American Competition: 11 films from Chile, Bolivia, Brasil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Argentina, 6 of which are international premieres.

The government of the City of Buenos Aires presents a summer program of cultural activities that starts next Friday, January 15th, 2016, consisting of a number of free events, including: musical shows, drive-in movies, activities for children, and numerous musical events, every day until February 28th, 2016.

As every year, a drive-in movie theater will be set up at the Rose Garden, on Av Libertador & Sarmiento, with projections every Friday, Saturday and Sunday of January 2016, at 9:00 PM. There will also be stalls and chairs for spectators without a car.

The government of the City of Buenos Aires presents a summer program of cultural activities that starts next Sunday, January 11th, 2015, consisting on over 100 free events, including: musical shows, drive-in movies, theater plays, activities for children, tango shows, lessons and "milongas", and numerous musical events, every day during January and until February 11th, 2015.

For kids, Open air movie projections at the Amphitheater of Parque Centenario, Av. Angel Gallardo & Leopoldo Marechal., on Fridays and Saturdays at 9 pm. And Circus shows at Polo Circo, Av. Juan de Garay & Combate de los Pozos.

The drive-in movie theater for adults will be set up at the Rose Garden, on Av Libertador & Sarmiento, every Saturday and Sunday from January 11 to February 1, at 9:00 PM. There will also be stalls for spectators without a car. 

Tango at Usina del Arte, Pedro de Mendoza 501 (La Boca). On Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1 at 4 pm, shows by renowned artists and live orchestras.

Pop, electronic and classical music shows at the big stage on Av. Figueroa Alcorta & Pampa.
And Folklore music shows at the Amphitheater of Parque Centenario, Av. Angel Gallardo & Leopoldo Marechal.

6th Festival of India in Buenos Aires



The Embassy of India in Argentina presents 6th Edition of the Festival of India in Buenos Aires, to be held between November 14 and November 24, 2014 at Centro Cultural Borges (Viamonte 525- Galerias Pacifico), Buenos Aires. All cultural events including music and dance and handicrafts exhibition during the festival are free entry to everyone. Some of the events are also planned in other parts of the city coinciding with the main festival.
This edition of the Festival features a grand exhibition with almost 40 stands displaying and selling unique products from India, like exquisite Indian handicrafts, jewelry, decoration items, silverware, woodcraft, traditional Indian wear, every day of the Festival from 12 pm to 8 pm.
Apart from the handicrafts fair, the Festival also features an extravaganza of music and dance of India including classical dances of Odissi, Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam and also the popular Bollywood ensembles with a bevy of talented artistes from India and Argentina, with Pooja Gupta and Janaki Rangarajan as special guests. Also featured are performances of classical Indian music , both vocal and instrumental. 
Seminars on Yoga, Spirituality, Indian Cuisine, Indian Theatre, Ayurveda system of medicine and Indian studies which draw popular support are also featured this year with eminent speakers and subject matter experts sharing their knowledge on various topics. 
A Film festival, bringing the magic of Indian cinema to the city, with a film show every night between November 15 and November 22, at 7.15 pm, will be presented at the Borges Centre, with free entrance (for those above 18 years of age)
Apart from the Centro Cultural Borges, the Festival also features two mega events for the people of Buenos Aires at the Planetarium (Av. Figueroa Alcorta & Av. Sarmiento) on November 15 (Saturday), from 10 am to 1 pm, featuring a grand Yoga Event "Buenos Aires OM"; and on November 16 (Sunday) a spectacular open air Bollywood Show featuring almost 100 dancers, from 5 pm to 8 pm.
On November 22, the Festival also features the Copa de la India cricket tournament at the St George School, Quilmes. And on November 23 the "India Polo Cup" at the magnificent Estancia Villa Maria.
Between 19 and 23 November, a Food festival is also being organized at the Sheraton Retiro (call Sheraton for reservations), bringing the gastronomical delights of India to Argentina.

Festival Shakespeare Buenos Aires 2014


The fourth edition of the Festival Shakespeare Buenos Aires will take place from Saturday 15 to Saturday 22 of February, 2014, sponsored by The British Council and the British Embassy in Buenos Aires. During those days the public will be able to enjoy performances and free activities which honor the great William Shakespeare, with the aim of disseminating the author's classics and expand the cultural offer in the city of Buenos Aires.

Programming includes theatrical productions, workshops and special activities, all free of charge. 

The Workshops and Conferences will provide professionals, students or Shakespeare enthusiasts with a space to research and deepen their knowledge of his works:

Professor Stanley Wells, arguably one of the best experts in the life of William Shakespeare, will present a video conference about the true authorship of his texts.
Richard Twyman, an experimented Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and National Theatre director, will present the video conference "Shakespeare and his time".
There will be two opportunities to meet Julian Bowsher, director of the team of archaeologists that work in the excavations of mythical theaters like “The Globe” and “The Rose” in London.
Tas Emiabata, actor and professor of the Globe Theatre in Londres will offer the acting workshop "Introducing Shakespeare".

At The Medieval Village, that will be set at Plaza Republica de Chile (Av. del Libertador & Tagle), the public can time travel into the past and participate in activities typical of the era, such as: calligraphy workshops, fashion design, bow and arrow shooting, fencing, cooking, music and dance renaissance.

Free tickets for the Theater Plays and movies must be reserved in advance online from 9 am on February 13.

The Shakespearean Walk and Shakespearean Bike Ride also require advance registration as the number of participants is limited.

Summer 2014: Program of Free cultural activities in Buenos Aires

The government of the City of Buenos Aires presents a summer program of cultural activities that starts next Saturday, January 11th, 2014, consisting on over 100 free events, including: musical shows, drive-in movies, theater plays, activities for children, tango shows, lessons and "milongas", and numerous musical events, every day during January and February 2014.

For kids: 
Circus shows on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 6.30 pm and Magic shows on February 15 and 16, at 6.30 pm, all at Polo Circo, Av. Juan de Garay & Combate de los Pozos.

The drive-in movie theater for adults will be set up at the Rose Garden, on Av Libertador & Sarmiento, every Saturday and Sunday from January 18 to February 9, at 9:00 PM. There will also be stalls for spectators without a car. 

On weekends, Tango at Usina del Arte, Pedro de Mendoza 501 (La Boca). On Saturdays and Sundays, starting at 5 pm and 6.30 pm, shows by renowned artists and live orchestras; at 5.45 pm, masterful tango lessons and milonga exhibitions, and at 8 pm, Milonga open to the general public.

The show Buenos Aires Tango by Mora Godoy will be presented at the Amphitheater of Parque Centenario (Av. Angel Gallardo & Leopoldo Marechal): on January 23 and February 6, 8.30 pm

FIBA - International Buenos Aires Theater Festival

Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, the International Buenos Aires Festival (Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires -FIBA), will take place between October 4th and October 20th, 2013.
FIBA takes place every two years, featuring diverse artistic expressions through theater, dance and musical theater. FIBA offers special free activities such us open talks with artists, workshops and masterclasses, books presentations, films, and an Exhibition of Stage Design.
This year the international program will feature 20 shows by directors and companies from Germany, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Congo, France, Italy, Mexico, Poland, United Kingdom, and Uruguay. With the presence of prestigious creators such as the German director Thomas Ostermeier, Jan Fabre from Belgium, the Italian Romeo Castellucci, Matthew Lenton from the UK, Roberto Suárez from Uruguay and Manuela Infante from Chile, among others.
The Festival will also include 36 National shows.
For the first time the Great Opening of the Festival will be with a large scale show at Dique 2 in Puerto Madero, on Friday, October 4th, at 8 pm, with free entrance to the public. The show is called "Fous de Bassin" (Water Fools) by the French company ilotopie, a show that takes place on the water and in which actor-chimeras, fire jousts, musical flights and incandescent machinery go on to evaporate the expected and give voice to a different world.

The price of tickets for the national plays is $ 25 Argentine Pesos and for the International shows between $ 50 and $ 90 Pesos. The rest of the activities are free of charge.

Youth Culture Festival Ciudad Emergente 2013

The sixth edition of Ciudad Emergente, the Festival for the youth culture, will take place from Wednesday 19 to Sunday 23 of June, 2013 at Centro Cultural Recoleta.

This Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, presents the new expressions of the youth culture: rock, pop, street art, animation, poetry, cinema, fashion, theater, and digital art.

The activities in the festival include: fashion shows by novel designers; events that combine poetry and music; street art; hip hop and other street dance style shows; movie screenings with a program related to national and international rock and roll; fashion and digital art exhibitions; chill out lounges; music concerts; DJs, VJs.

The sensational show "Fuerza Bruta" will be presented on June 20, 21, 22, and 23, at 2:00 pm. Free tickets for all these performances must be picked up on Tuesday, June 18, from 12:00 pm (up to 2 tickets per person until reaching the total of 2000 tickets), in exchange of a donation of clothes, footwear or blankets for the Winter Solidarity Campaign "BA Solidaria".

Admission free of charge for all the activities, with limited capacity.
