A week dedicated to Buenos Aires cuisine


Many events of interest will take place during the first Week of Buenos Aires Gastronomy ("Semana de la Gastronomía Porteña") organized by the Association of Hotels, Bars and Cafes and the Tourism Entity of the City of Buenos Aires. Multiple activities related to the Buenos Aires food scene will take place in various parts of the city from October 10th to October 16th, 2011.

The program of activities of the week include:

Cooking for all: Free cooking demonstrations and classes in different parts of the city of Buenos Aires:

The magnificent Lapacho Rosado announces the arrival of Spring in Buenos Aires


This splendid specimen, one of the most famous trees in Buenos Aires is popularly known as the "Lapacho de Ezcurra". It is a "lapacho rosado" (Tabebuia impetiginosa), a tree native from the North-West of Argentina, that was planted many years ago by landscape artist Martin Ezcurra on the corner of Ave. Figueroa Alcorta and Mariscal Castilla, in Palermo Chico, and by the end of September every year punctually announces the arrival of Spring with an explosion of pink flowers:



The Lapacho on Figueroa Alcorta Ave above is the most spectacular of all, but there are many other specimens of lapachos scattered around Buenos Aires, like the ones below:




This wonderful spectacle only lasts for a few days, so those who are in Buenos Aires at the end of September / beginning of October are very lucky to witness it.

13th Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture

The 13th Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture BA11 will take place from October 8th to 30th at the Recoleta Cultural Center and Auditorio Buenos Aires, bringing together the world's most prominent architects, and turning the city of Buenos Aires into the center of the global architecture.
The Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture, that takes place since 1985, is one of the most important exhibitions along with the Venice and San Pablo Biennials.
A series of lectures and conferences will take place at Auditorio Buenos Aires (Av. Pueyrredón 2501, 2nd Floor) from Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th, where invited speakers will show their works, share their experiences and creative processes.
Like in previous Biennials, architects, critics and theorists from Argentina and different countries have been invited including: César Pelli (Argentina-USA), who has been invited to all Biennials; Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra (Spain), Ignacio Dahl Rocha (Argentina/Suitzerland), Iñaki Abalos (Spain), Italo Rota (Italy), Paul Andreu (France), Mathias Klotz (Chile), Rafael Viñoly (Uruguay), Sou Fujimoto (Japan), Steven Ehrlich (USA), West 8 (Holland), Wolf Prix (Austria) and the collectives F451, Fake Industries Architectural Agonism and PKMN, among many others.

The exhibition of winning works from the Contests and Prizes will be held from October 8th to 30th, occupying 16 rooms in Centro Cultural Recoleta (Junin 1930).

Autoclasica 2011 - Antique and classic cars exhibition

Autoclasica 2011, the biggest festival for classic cars and motorcycles in South America will take place between October 7 and 10, 2011, at the Gardens of San Isidro Race Track.
Autoclasica 2011 will pay tribute to the great Juan Manuel Fangio, one of the greatest drivers of all times, in the centenary of his birth. Visitors will be able to admire a selection of original cars driven by Fangio between 1930 and 1950.
The exhibition is complemented with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the brand Chevrolet, 125th anniversary of Mercedes Benz; 70th anniversary of Jeep, 50 years of Jaguar E Type; the symbolic start of the Rally Camino de Los Alerces, that will tour Los Alerces National Park; and many other special attractions.
Autoclasica features 800 vehicles in their original state, and in perfect working conditions, as well as the famous Argentine "Monopostos".
For collectors, the classic "Autojumble", with over 100 stands offering antique pieces and accessories, books, models, and auto clubs stands from around the country.
A jury will award the most outstanding vehicles in every category of the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) in exhibition, and the "Best of Show” between autos and motorcycles of the year.
