The main parade of the 2022 Buenos Aires Carnival (“Carnaval Porteño 2022”) will take place on Sunday, March 6th, with a big event along Avenida de Mayo, between Bolivar and Carlos Pellegrini, from 4 PM, with the participation of numerous "murgas" (carnival bands) with their colorful costumes, songs, drums and percussion instruments.

Murgas and carnival are the artistic expressions of the marginal neighborhoods, their songs and urban folk customs. The lyrics of these songs are called "criticas", and combine the social denunciation with humor and dancing. What identifies the "murga porteña" from others are their costumes (frock coat, gloves, top hat, and stick), the drums with cymbals, and the various traditional rhythms used to differentiate every neighborhood.

In addition to the carnival parades, throughout the day there will be gastronomic stalls where visitors can buy food and drinks, interventions by traveling artists, children's shows; DJ sets; a photographic exhibition that covers the history of Carnival; and a special musical closing show.

*The use of face masks is required.
*All the events are free of charge.
*In case of rain the parade may be canceled.

    1. Hi Venetia. Yes, it's the correct date. It was originally planned for Feb 27 but it had to be rescheduled for rain.
