The original production of Pam Gem's 1978 bio-play "Piaf", acclaimed in London's Donmar Warehouse returns to Buenos Aires.
The play that was a hit success among London's public and critics, and for which her protagonist, Argentine actress Elena Roger was awarded the Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a musical, will run from July 28, 2023, at Teatro Liceo de Buenos Aires.
Edith Piaf, regarded as France's greatest popular singer, was born in Paris in December 1915. After a short, sad and tragic life scarred by abandonment, drink and drugs addiction, Edith Piaf died of liver cancer on 10 October 1963. She is best remembered for her song classics including “La vie en rose”, “Milord”, “Hyme a l’amour” and “Non, je ne regretted rien”, which are sung in this stage show.
In this new production of Piaf, Pam Gems has reworked her 1978 play capturing the rise and fall of this complex, fragile and enigmatic performer.
Elena Roger plays Edith Piaf. Her other theatre works in the UK include Evita and Boeing, Boeing. In her native Buenos Aires, Elena Roger’s credits include the original productions of Nine, Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables and Saturday Night Fever. In 2003 Elena Roger and director Valeria Ambrosio devised "Mina, che cosa sei". This musical, based on the life of the Italian singer, won five awards including the ACE (Critics’ Award) for Best Actress for Elena.
The Argentine version of Piaf is presented in Spanish, with original songs in French.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, the International Performing Arts Festival of Buenos Aires (13° Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires - FIBA), will take place between January 23rd and February 1st, 2020.

The former bi annual event has now been converted into an annual Summer Festival, featuring diverse artistic expressions through contemporary theater, dance and musical theater.
In addition to the line-up of outstanding international guest artists and national productions, there will be many performances in outdoor public spaces. such as the Abasto Marathon, with a varied array of cultural and gastronomic offerings in this neighborhood that is a traditional hub of independent theater, and Ciudanza, a space for dancers to take over urban landscapes, bringing the art of movement close to the audience.

FIBA SECTIONS:

Opening Party:
On Thursday, January 23rd, from 10:00 pm at the Historic Downtown Center. The main event will take place on Adolfo Alsina between Defensa and Bolívar, next to Museo de la Ciudad, with theater, music and dance performances in the streets.

International and National Productions:

The 13° FIBA will feature national and international productions from Germany, Brasil, France, India, Uruguay, Scotland, Italy, Suitzerland, Spain, Chile, Canada and Colombia. All with a common theme: the colective and individual body.

Abasto Marathon:
On February 1st, from 6.00 pm to 2.00 am, as closing of the Festival, the Abasto Marathon will offer an array of shows outdoors and at traditional theatres in the porteño neighbourhood.
This local neighborhood with a long tradition for independent theater and performing arts will offer a myriad of shows in and outdoors.
In addition to the variety of shows at playhouses in the area, in the streets there will be music, dance, visual arts, interdisciplinary performances and interventions in houses, roofs and shops. Apart from the long list of cultural activities, offered with free admission, a number of bars and restaurants will join in with an array of artistic and gastronomic offerings.

Ciudanza:
Joining FIBA this year, this section will offer performances in diverse urban settings across Buenos Aires. On January 24th, 25th, and 26th, dancers will perform in outdoor public spaces.
With the idea of bringing dance close to the audience and promoting the creativity of choreographers, a series of short performances will be held in unusual architectonic spaces such as staircases, cliffs, pergolas and all kinds of urban furniture that could be used as a stage.

FIBA SECTIONS:

International Productions:

The 12° FIBA will kick off in grand style, with an international production: The New Colossus. Directed by Tim Robbins, Oscar-winning actor for his performance in Mystic River, the play will be performed on January 23rd at 8.30 pm at Anfiteatro del Parque Centenario.
Other international productions that will be presented during the Festival are: Atlas des Kommunismus (Germany), a production from the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin; La desnudez (Spain); Macbettu (Italy) by Compagnia Teatropersona.

National Productions:

A total of 32 national productions, including shows presented by institutions like Centro Cultural Recoleta, Centrro Cultural San Martín, Centro Cultural Rector Ricardo Rojas, Proteatro, Instituto Nacional del Teatro.

Abasto Marathon:
On January 24 and 25, from 6.00 pm to 2.00 am the Abasto Marathon will offer an array of shows outdoors and at traditional theatres in the porteño neighbourhood.
Within the framework of FIBA, Abasto will become an open-air stage bringing a new section to life. This local neighborhood with a long tradition for independent theater and performing arts will offer a myriad of shows in and outdoors.

In Spite of Wishing and Wanting

Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, the International Buenos Aires Theater Festival (Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires -FIBA), will take place between October 5th and October 21st, 2017.

International Productions:

This year´s FIBA international presentations include 19 productions in diverse formats, such as: The Tiger Lillies perform Hamlet, featuring a Danish cast in a Teatro Republique/Osterbro Teater production alongside cult British band The Tiger Lillies; Nathan!? with German director Nicolas Stemann; the adaptation by French director Laurent Berger of 38SM, a co-production between FIBA and Teatro Cervantes, a contemporary adaptation of the 38 works by William Shakespeare through a production that combines theater, performance, video, dance and music; "2666", directed by Julien Gosselin, based on the novel by Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño, the longest theater play (12 hours) premiered in the city; among many others.
As for dance, Portugal's Circolando presents Noite, an intensely physical dialogue between three male dancers and a DJ, and the great Belgian choreographer Win Vanderkeybus presents In Spite of Wishing and Wanting, an organic symbiosis of dance, theater and film..

National Productions:

A total of 46 national productions, including shows presented by institutions like Centro Cultural Recoleta, Complejo Teatral de Buenos Aires, Centro Cultural San Martín, Instituto Nacional del Teatro, Agencia Córdoba Cultura and Teatro Cervantes - Teatro Nacional Argentino.

The 8th Buenos Aires International Circus Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, will take place between May 12 and May 22, 2016, at Buenos Aires Polo Circo, Centro Cultural Kirchner, and Tecnopolis.

The Festival will offer the public unique experiences, outstanding artistic performances, and fun national and international shows and performances by Circus companies from France, Australia, Sweden, UK, and Argentina, focusing on contemporary circus.

This year the Festival will feature the French company Théatre Le Monfort with three exceptional works. Nube (Cloud): premiered at the Nuit Blanche in París, an open air performance that will be installed in the front of Centro Cultural Kirchner, a giant cloud floating in the air. An acrobat climbs on it, jumps and plays. Finally the cloud turns into snow that falls on the spectators, making them an active part of this fascinating spectacle.

This free show will be presented on Saturday and Sunday, every half hour from 5.30 pm, and Monday to Friday at 6 pm, 6.30 pm, and 7 pm.

The other two shows by this company are Tu and Noos, at Buenos Aires Polo Circo.

The British company Upswing presents Bedtime Stories. From Sweden, David Eriksson, one of the most talented members of Cirkus Cirkör, presents the show for adults Pink on the inside; and from France, Florent Bergal, presents his magical show Oktobre.

This new special edition of the Festival Shakespeare Buenos Aires, on the year of the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, will have a duration of two months, starting on Monday, February 23rd, 2016, sponsored by The British Council and the British Embassy in Buenos Aires. During these two months the public will be able to enjoy performances and free activities which honor the great William Shakespeare, with the aim of disseminating the author's classics and expand the cultural offer in the city of Buenos Aires.

Programming includes theatrical productions, workshops and special outdoor activities.

The Workshops and Conferences will provide professionals, students or Shakespeare enthusiasts with a space to research and deepen their knowledge of his works. All the workshops and conferences require advance registration through the Festival´s website.

The first theater play announced for the Festival is “Anthony Unbound”, with English actor George Irving and direction of Penny Cherns, on Saturday February 27, at 5 pm, at Paseo La Plaza, Sala Pablo Picasso. Av Corrientes 1660. Entry fee: AR$200 (in benefit of Fundacion Romeo). Tickets must be purchased in advance through the Festival´s website.

The Shakespearean Walks are aimed for the whole family and anyone interested in long walks. They are designed to know more about Shakespeare´s work, promote healthy lifestyle, and share a fun activity making new friends, while immersing in a theater play and enjoying the green spaces of the city. The first of these walks will be held on Sunday, February 28, at 10:30 am, starting from the Planetarium (main door). No previous registration required.

The activity will be suspended in case of rain.

The Festival Beckett Buenos Aires was created in 2006, celebrating the 100th anniversary of birth of Samuel Beckett. This 10th edition of the festival will present plays by and based on the famous Irish playwright, by national and international groups, as well as music, workshops, and a photography exhibition, from December 2nd through December 8th, 2015.

The Beckett Festival starts on December 2nd at 7 pm at the MACBA (Av. San Juan 328) with the Godot Prize awards ceremony. The Godot Prize is presented to theater personalities who have contributed in spreading the work of Samuel Beckett in Argentina.

On the same day a photography exhibition by John Haynes will be inaugurated, which will remain open until December 6th, from 2 pm to 7 pm.

FIBA takes place every two years, featuring diverse artistic expressions through theater, dance and musical theater. FIBA offers special free activities such us open talks with artists, workshops and masterclasses, films, and books presentations.

International Productions:

This year´s FIBA welcomes two great European artists performing in the City for the first time. Belgian Ivo van Hove, director of leading Dutch theatre company Toneelgroep Amsterdam, and fellow countryman Jan Lauwers with the Needcompany. The former brings Opening Night, a production combining theatre and cinema, based on the film of the same name by John Cassavetes.

Another company debuting this year is Australia’s Back to Back Theatre, made up of actors with and without a disability, who perform Ganesh versus the Third Reich. From Spain, Catalan company Agrupación Señor Serrano, winner of a Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale 2015, presents Brickman Brando Bubble Boom: a dynamic format mixing performance, text, video, sound and installations. Choreographer Sol Picó returns to the Festival with We Women, a piece co-produced by FIBA and Festival Grec. France participates with three shows. Groupe F opens the Festival with À Fleur de Peau, a stunning open-air spectacle combining projected images, sound and fireworks.

Argentine Rodrigo García, current director of Centre Dramatique National de Montpellier, presents Gólgota Picnic. Director and actor Arthur Nauzyciel offers a reading of Allen Ginsberg’s KADDISH. Special mention deserves the version of Verdi’s opera Macbeth created by South African director Brett Bailey: a touching. Argentine-born, Berlin-based Constanza Macras brings one of her most recent works, The Past, in which dancers explore the relationship between space and memory. Cuba visits us with Antigonón. Un contingente épico, by Rogelio Orizondo; while Chile and Peru bring Castigo and La cautiva, respectively.

National Productions:

With every edition of FIBA, the amount of works submitted in response to the call for national productions increases. This year submissions reached a record number of 460. As a result, the 16 works selected cover a wide range of trends, languages, aesthetics and generations. Text-based, puppet and object theatre, circus, clown, collective creations, dance, dance-theatre, dramatized concerts, music theatre, installations, performances, projects from young to established artists form a mosaic that reflects the variety and vitality of the local scene.

Additional Activities:

* Two contemporary dance shows will premiere this year at the Festival as a result of winning the Co-Production Prize held jointly by 10 FIBA and VIII Festival Buenos Aires Danza Contemporánea.

* A series of four lectures based on the Ciclo Invocaciones, created by Mercedes Halfon and Carolina Martín Ferro, in which four theatre directors from Buenos Aires engage in a dialogue with four

other directors of 20th century theatre.

* In the year commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Tadeusz Kantor, FIBA joins the celebration of the life and work of the great Polish artist with various activities, jointly with the Embassy of Poland in Buenos Aires.

* Lectures: at the end of international performances, there will be post-show discussions where the main figures (performers and directors) will take the stage to converse with the audience. In addition, the section will offer open talks, performing experiences and workshops.

* The film section returns to serve as a bridge between two arts that are very much related.

The Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires presents the 11th Edition of La Noche de los Museos - Museum Night 2014, that will take place on November 15, 2014, from 8 PM until 3 AM.

Since 2004 one Saturday night the museums of Buenos Aires stay open all night offering different cultural activities, all of them free of charge, in the same way as in other 130 cities around the world.

During this special night visitors will be able to enjoy free guided visits, special exhibitions, as well as conferences, shows, theater performances, dance, screenings, video, multimedia, and diverse concerts of classical music, jazz, tango, folk, and rock, and move around the city on more than 80 bus lines that will offer free rides during the night, by printing this free pass.

Over 180 museums and art spaces will be participating in this edition.

The fourth edition of the Festival Shakespeare Buenos Aires will take place from Saturday 15 to Saturday 22 of February, 2014, sponsored by The British Council and the British Embassy in Buenos Aires. Professor Stanley Wells, arguably one of the best experts in the life of William Shakespeare, will present a video conference about the true authorship of his texts.

Richard Twyman, an experimented Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and National Theatre director, will present the video conference "Shakespeare and his time".

There will be two opportunities to meet Julian Bowsher, director of the team of archaeologists that work in the excavations of mythical theaters like “The Globe” and “The Rose” in London.

Tas Emiabata, actor and professor of the Globe Theatre in Londres will offer the acting workshop "Introducing Shakespeare".

At The Medieval Village, that will be set at Plaza Republica de Chile (Av. del Libertador & Tagle), the public can time travel into the past and participate in activities typical of the era, such as: calligraphy workshops, fashion design, bow and arrow shooting, fencing, cooking, music and dance renaissance.

All the activities and shows of the Festival are free of charge.

Free tickets for the Theater Plays and movies must be reserved in advance online from 9 am on February 13.

This year the international program will feature 20 shows by directors and companies from Germany, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Congo, France, Italy, Mexico, Poland, United Kingdom, and Uruguay. With the presence of prestigious creators such as the German director Thomas Ostermeier, Jan Fabre from Belgium, the Italian Romeo Castellucci, Matthew Lenton from the UK, Roberto Suárez from Uruguay and Manuela Infante from Chile, among others.

The Festival will also include 36 National shows.

For the first time the Great Opening of the Festival will be with a large scale show at Dique 2 in Puerto Madero, on Friday, October 4th, at 8 pm, with free entrance to the public. The show is called "Fous de Bassin" (Water Fools) by the French company ilotopie, a show that takes place on the water and in which actor-chimeras, fire jousts, musical flights and incandescent machinery go on to evaporate the expected and give voice to a different world.

The sixth edition of Ciudad Emergente, the Festival for the youth culture, will take place from Wednesday 19 to Sunday 23 of June, 2013 at Centro Cultural Recoleta.

This Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, presents the new expressions of the youth culture: rock, pop, street art, animation, poetry, cinema, fashion, theater, and digital art.

The activities in the festival include: fashion shows by novel designers; events that combine poetry and music; street art; hip hop and other street dance style shows; movie screenings with a program related to national and international rock and roll; fashion and digital art exhibitions; chill out lounges; music concerts; DJs, VJs.

The sensational show "Fuerza Bruta" will be presented on June 20, 21, 22, and 23, at 2:00 pm. Free tickets for all these performances must be picked up on Tuesday, June 18, from 12:00 pm (up to 2 tickets per person until reaching the total of 2000 tickets), in exchange of a donation of clothes, footwear or blankets for the Winter Solidarity Campaign "BA Solidaria".

Admission free of charge for all the activities, with limited capacity.
