Guitars of the World International Festival 2009

The “XV Festival Internacional Guitarras del Mundo 2009” (15th Guitars of the World International Festival 2009), will take place from October 6th through October 18th, 2009, with free entrance to the public.
For the past 15 years, the Festival "Guitarras del Mundo" has remained the biggest world wide event dedicated to guitars and guitar players, in which over 700 artists have participated and 36 countries from America, Europe, Asia and Africa have been represented.
"Guitarras del Mundo" features regional music from around the world as well as new musical pieces, promoting at the same time meetings among different guitar schools.
In this year's edition local and international guitar players will offer over 100 concerts with free entrance in 84 venues around the country. Some of the prestigious artists that will participate in the festival are: Juanjo Dominguez, Jorge Cardoso, Rudi, Nini Flores, Ricardo Moyano, Juan Falú (Argentina); Janne Lehtinen and Pentti Hilden (Finland); Bandini-Chiacchiaretta Duo and Stefano Raponi (Italy); Iliana Matos and Eduardo Martin (Cuba); Cem Duruöz and Serkán Yilmaz (Turkey); Ignacio López, José Luis Martinez, Rosalía Royo (Spain); Dale Kavanagh (Canada); Eduardo Fernández (Uruguay); Elias Esper (Argentina-Syria); Nora Buschmann (Germany); Juan Carlos Laguna (Mexico); Dolores Costoyas (Argentina-Switzerland).

Pecha Kucha Night Buenos Aires Vol. 15


On Tuesday, October 27, 2009, Ciudad Cultural Konex presents the fifteenth edition of Pecha Kucha Night, a “showcasing + networking” event created in Japan in 2003 by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, in which 12-15 creators from different disciplines have 6 minutes and 40 seconds each to show an idea or project, through 20 images screened for 20 seconds. Once the presentations are finished, the guest artists get together to exchange their opinions, and the public is invited to enjoy some music and conversation.

Buenos Aires celebrates nomination of Tango as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity with an Open Air Milonga

Tango has been declared by Unesco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Celebrating this event, the Ministry of Culture of the city of Buenos Aires organizes an Open Air Milonga on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October 2009, at the emblematic corner of San Juan and Boedo, with the participation of renowned Argentinian and Uruguayan artists like Susana Rinaldi and Rubén Rada, among others.

The declaration was approved at Unesco's fourth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).

12th Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture

The 12th Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture BA09 will take place from October 3rd to 12th at the Recoleta Cultural Center, bringing together the world's most prominent architects, and turning the city of Buenos Aires into the center of the global architecture for ten days.
The Buenos Aires International Biennial of Architecture, that takes place since 1985, is one of the most important exhibitions along with the Venice and San Pablo Biennials.
The exhibition of works will be held from October 3rd to 12th. A series of conferences will take place from Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th, where invited speakers will show their works, share their experiences and creative processes.

Palermo Day Celebration


On Saturday, October 24, 2009, the city of Buenos Aires celebrates the day of Palermo Neighborhood with a series of free cultural and sports activities.
The main celebration will take place from 2 pm on Av. Figueroa Alcorta (between Sarmiento and Dorrego), that will be closed to the traffic between 2 pm and 8 pm.

Autoclasica 2009 - Antique and classic cars exhibition

Autoclasica 2009, the biggest festival for classic cars and motorcycles in South America will take place between October 9 and 12, 2009, at the Gardens of San Isidro Race Track.
Autoclasica will feature this year 400 automobiles and 200 motorcycles in their original state, and in perfect working conditions. Among them, the main attractions are: 24 Argentine "Monopostos"; 20 original Rolls Royce manufactured between 1908 and 1970; 7 original Morgans, mainly from the post-war years; 7 Bentleys that will make a tour around Route 40 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the brand; and the Berliet 1913, winner of the Best of Show Autoclásica 2008 award.
For collectors, the classic "Autojumble", wirh over 100 stands offering antique pieces and accesories, books, models, and auto clubs stands from around the country.
On Monday, October 12, a jury will award the most outstanding vehicles in every category of the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) in exhibition, and the "Best of Show” between autos and motorcycles of the year.

Teatro Colon presents free, open air ballet performances

The ballet company of Teatro Colon, directed by Lidia Segni, will offer two open air performances of "El Colon de Primavera" (The Colon in Spring), on Sundays, September 27 and October 4, 7.00 pm, at the Amphitheater Eva Peron in Parque Centenario. Light and music show: the Bicentennial's Beacon


The emblematic lighthouse located at the top of the tower of Palacio Barolo, chosen as one of the symbols for the commemoration of the 200 years of May 1810 Revolution, will be put to work again on October 3, 2009, as part of the program "On the Doors of the Bicentenary" by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.
After its restoration and value enhancement project, the Bicentennial's Beacon  (El Faro del Bicentenario) will be switched on at 8.00 pm, during a colorful show.
The young and talented Argentinian pianist Horacio Lavandera will interpret three Beethoven's sonatas (Moonlight Sonata, Pathetic, and Aurora), to revive three moments of Dante's "The Divine Comedy", in which architect Mario Palanti was inspired to design this extraordinary building: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso.
Palacio Barolo will be the support for the images related to Dante's world that will accompany the musician along the night.
After being turned on for this first time, the beam of light will cross the skies of Buenos Aires the 25th day of each month, with a light show that will be seen from different parts of the city.

FIBA - Buenos Aires International Theater Festival 2009

Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, the International Buenos Aires Festival (Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires -FIBA), will take place between October 5th and 18th, 2009. This year the festival features a program that combines theatrical plays and shows from Argentina and other from cities around the world, such as: Ajaccio (France), Asunción del Paraguay (Paraguay), Barcelona (Spain), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Cochabamba/La Paz (Bolivia), Córdoba (Argentina), Gante (Belgium) Helsinki (Finland), Hong Kong (China), Maputo (Mozambique), México DF (México), Montevideo (Uruguay), Palermo (Italy), París (France), Poznan (Poland), Prague (Czech Republic), Rosario (Argentina), San Miguel de Tucumán (Argentina), Santiago de Chile (Chile), Seoul (Korea) and Wroclaw (Poland).

FIBA takes place every two years, featuring diverse artistic expressions through theater, dance and musical theater. This year the international program will be composed of 22 shows, and the national program will include 28 plays. The festival is complemented with a series of cultural activities:

Pequeña Música Nocturna, a space to close every journey with music related to theater, dance and movies, with artists like Samy Abadi, Ulises Conti, Diego Vainer, Bárbara Togander, Federico Marrale, Pablo Bronzini, Cheny Wa Gune, Sebastián Schachtel, Sergio Vainicoff, Pablo Agri, Jorge Haro, Gustavo García Mendy and Alejandro González Novoa.

Workshops. 19 workshops hosted by artists from the companies participating in FIBA.

The Perfect 80-goal Polo Match 2009

On Sunday, October 11th, 2009, and for the third time in the history of Polo in Argentina, the perfect 80-goal match will be played, this time at the Jockey Club in San Isidro. The two participating teams ("Patricios" and "Granaderos"), with 40 goals of handicap each, will bring together some of the best polo players in the world. The tams will form as follows:

98th Salon Nacional de Artes Visuales 2009

The Salón Nacional de Artes Visuales, which takes place every year at Palais de Glace, is the most important contest in Argentina in the field of fine arts, covering painting, sculpture, engraving, drawing, photography, ceramics, textile art, and new supports and installations.

This competition started in 1911 as an annual painting and sculpture exhibition hall sponsored by the Fine Arts National Commission. Since 1932, Palais de Glace is the permanent venue for the Salon Nacional de Artes Visuales.

From September 24, 2009 to October 18, 2009, the awarded works from all the disciplines and all the selected works for the "Painting" category will be exhibited to the public.

Personal Fest 2009

2009 Tortugas Country Club Open Polo Championship

IV Ancient Music Festival


San Ignacio de Loyola, the oldest church in Buenos Aires, located in the historic Manzana de las Luces, presents the IV Ancient Music Festival, a program of eight concerts destined to raising funds for the restoration of the temple, built 300 years ago by the Jesuits.
The program will consist of Ancient Music and Latin American Baroque concerts, performed by four outstanding groups:
  • Capilla del Sol - Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • San Ignacio de Moxos, Beni, Bolivia.
  • Hombres Nuevos -Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
  • La Barroca del Suquía - Córdoba, Argentina.
The concerts will take place during the month of September 2009 at the same church of San Ignacio de Loyola (Bolivar 255), at the at the Parrish of Universidad del Salvador (Callao 580), and at the San Antonio de Padua Parrish, in the town of San Antonio de Areco, province of Buenos Aires. Entrance is free, and a contributions for the restoration will be accepted.

Photographic exhibition celebrating 50 years of work by Aldo Sessa

Centro Cultural Recoleta hosts the photographic exhibition "Aldo Sessa, Pasion por la imagen" (Aldo Sessa, A passion for image), celebrating the 50 years of work of one of the most talented Argentinian photographers.
The exhibit is composed of 160 of Aldo Sessa's most representative artistic photographs, experimental works, Argentine landscapes, portraits of its people, the city of Buenos Aires, the tango, the gauchos, and his still-life series. It also features some paintings from his artistic beginnings.
