Buenos Aires celebrates International Tourism Day with free Hop-on Hop-off bus routes


On Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28, 2008, the Tourism Entity of the city of Buenos Aires invites visitors to celebrate the International Tourism Day, enjoying its tourist and cultural sights, with a circuit of free Hop-on Hop-off buses which depart from four head points in the city: Obelisco (Carlos Pellegrini 271), Recoleta (Quintana 596), Plaza Italia (Av. Sarmiento & Av. Santa Fe) and La Boca (Av. Pedro de Mendoza & Palos). It will be possible to get on and off the buses in any of the 14 stops of the tours. The departures from the head stops are at 11 am and 3 pm, and the frequency is between 11 am and 6 pm.

The circuit will consist of 14 stops where visitors will be able to get off to know the attractions in the area, and then continue the route on the next bus. They will be handed written informative material about the different places to visit. The stops and their near attractions are:

Stop 1: Obelisco. Carlos Pellegrini 217: Obelisco, Plaza Lavalle, Palacio de Tribunales (Justice Courts), Teatro Cervantes, Teatro Colón (closed for renovation), Av. Corrientes.

Stop 2: Plaza San Martín. Florida Street & Plaza San Martín: Kavanagh building (1936), Palacio San Martin, Military Circle (Palacio Paz), Hotel Marriott Plaza, Basílica del Santísimo Sacramento, Torre Monumental, Florida Street, Galerias Pacifico.

Stop 3: Recoleta. Quintana 596: Del Pilar Church, Recoleta Cemetery, Centro Cultural Recoleta, Palais de Glace, Fine Arts Museum, Alvear Avenue.

Stop 4: Costanera Norte. Av. Rafael Obligado & Muelle del Club de Pescadores: Fisher´s Club Pier, Airport Jorge Newbery, Rio de la Plata.

Stop 5: Barrancas de Belgrano. Echeverría & Virrey Vertiz: Barrancas de Belgrano park, Chinese Quarter, Larreta Museum, Cabildo Avenue.

Stop 6: Palermo. Av. Del Libertador & Av. Sarmiento: Tres de Febrero Park, Zoo, Japanese Garden, Polo Field, Planetarium, Palermo Race Track, Islamic Mosque.

Stop 7: Plaza Italia. Av. Sarmiento & Santa Fe: Botanical Garden, Zoo, Evita Museum, Garibaldi´s Monument.

Stop 8: Abasto. Av. Corrientes & Anchorena: Museum Carlos Gardel, Abasto Shopping Mall.

Stop 9: Boedo. San Ignacio & Boedo: Café Margot. Bars cafés, and tango houses.

Stop 10: San Telmo. Av. San Juan & Bolívar: Dorrego Square. Antiquarian Fair on Sunday. Parque Lezama. National History Museum.

Stop 11: La Boca. Av. Pedro de Mendoza & Palos: Boca Juniors Club. La Boca Fine Arts Museum. Open Air Museum Caminito Street.

Stop 12: Costanera Sur. Av. España & Dellepiane: Ecological Reserve. "Las Nereidas" fountain, by Lola Mora. Museum of Sculptural Replicas.

Stop 13: Puerto Madero. Alicia Moreau de Justo 200: Docks, bars and restaurants, Old navy vessesl, The Woman´s Bridge.

Stop 14: Plaza de Mayo. Diagonal Norte & Florida: Pink House, Metropolitan Cathedral, Cabildo, City Government Building, Avenida de Mayo, National Congress.

The Director's Fortnight (Quinzaine des réalisateurs) in Buenos Aires

On Wednesday, September 17th, 2008, Olivier Père, artistic director of the "Quinzaine des réalisateurs" (The Director's Fortnight), will be presenting this showcase, one of the most important events in the calendar of international festivals, composed of 44 films that account for the richness, risk and diversity of movie making.
The Quinzaine, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary, was born amid the political and cultural turmoil of May of '68, and from then on it keeps endorsing the free, independent, cinema, that goes beyond labels and frontiers.
This event is sponsored by: French Emabssy, Goethe-Institut, Cinémathèque Française, Austrian Film Commission, Cultural and Informative Center of the Embassy of Japan, and the Embassies of Austria, México and Portugal.

La Dolfina and Santa Maria de Lobos to play the Final of Jockey Club Open Championship

The Jockey Club Open Championship has its two finalists.
The world famous players from La Dolfina (32), Adolfo Cambiaso (Jr) and his brother in law Bartolomé Castagnola, who have successfully incorporated to their team the outstanding Uruguayan player David Stirling (Jr), defeated El Paraiso (29) 15-6 on the second semifinal played on Sunday 14. With this result, they will face Santa Maria de Lobos (31), which in turn had defeated Chapa Uno R.E. Hope Funds (34) on the first semifinal played on Saturday 13.
The Final match of this prestigious tournament will take place on September, Saturday 20, 3 PM, at the fields of Jockey Club in San Isidro.

Polo: The Jockey Club Open Championship starts at San Isidro

The magnificent fields of Buenos Aires Jockey Club, located in the town of San Isidro outside Buenos Aires, will host one of the 6 most important open tournaments in our country: the 44th Jockey Club Open Championship, that will take place from September 8th through September 20th, 2008.
Eleven teams, from 28 to 34 goals, will participate in the tournament, which boasts some of the most remarkable polo players from Argentina and abroad, including: Adolfo Cambiaso (Jr), Bartolomé Castagnola, Agustín Merlos and Bautista Heguy, four of the Argentine players with 10 goals of handicap, along with other great players such as: Juan Ignacio and Sebastián Merlos, Francisco de Narváez (Jr), brothers Ignacio and Eduardo Heguy, and Ignacio Novillo Astrada, among others.
