MEACVAD 08 -Euro American Cinema, Video and Digital Art Exhibition

The Euro American Cinema, Video and Digital Art Exhibition (Muestra Euroamericana de Cine, Video y Arte Digital - MEACVAD) is an annual meeting organized by Alliance Francaise Argentina, Goethe-Institut, and Espacio Fundacion Telefonica, with the support of foreign delegations, universities, and national institutions. During a whole week of activities, performers, directors, theorists, and academicians in visual arts showcase their author-based movies, documentaries, experimental videos and interactive visual arts, to debate about the present status of audiovisual arts and media.
The 2008 edition of MEACVAD focuses on the digital era: digital cinema, online TV, web art, VJs, live events, video games, and cell phones, as means of hyper media production.
Invited guests from America and Europe will converge for a week in Buenos Aires to present their material, showcase their works, offer seminars, and set out a debate about the audiovisual arts, the artistic practices, and the current state of technological transition. MEACVAD presents this year two new publications: "La era Post Analógica", a compilation of the minutes of the event, and "Entre Imágenes", by Raymond Bellour.

Formula 1 exhibition in Argentina

On Saturday, October 25, 2008, at 3 PM, a Formula One Red Bull will make an exhibition on Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world. Driver David Coulthard will be behind the wheel for this exhibition event held at different cities around the world.
The circuit, that will start at the Obelisk and will cover Av. 9 de Jullio between Avenida Corrientes and Avenida Cordoba, will allow Coulthard to set the car to full speed.
A great opportunity for Formula 1 lovers who will be able to feel up close the 700 HP of this powerful car.

Iñaki Urlezaga presents the world premiere of Carmina Burana

The prestigious Argentine dancer Iñaki Urlezaga presents Carmina Burana, with choreographyc production by Jean Pierre Aviotte, accompanied by his company Ballet Concierto and Teatro Colón´s Orchestra and Choir, at Teatro Opera.
Carmina Burana is a collection of chants from the 12th and 13th centuries, preserved in a unique Codex found in 1803 by Johann Christoph von Aretin at the abbey of Bura Sancti Benedicti (Benediktbeuern), in Bavaria. The codex comprises a total of 300 rhymes, written mainly in latin, some in an ancient German dialect, and ancient French.
Between 1935 and 1936 German composer Carl Orff set 24 of the poems to music, also called Carmina Burana, becoming a symbol of the German spirit. The most famous movement is "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi (O Fortuna)"
Iñaki Urlezaga began his dance lessons at the age of 8 in his hometown, La Plata, and soon he entered Superior Institute of Art of the Colón Theatre in Buenos Aires. He won a scholarship to improve in The School of American Ballet where he stayed for a whole year. His professional career started in 1991, at the Argentinean Theatre of La Plata. In July 1993, he joined the Colón Theatre in Buenos Aires as Principal Dancer through an International selection. He was chosen by the French choreographer Pierre Lacotte for the premiere of "The Sylphide". In March 1995, invited by Anthony Dowel he joined The Royal Ballet of London where he made an excellent artistic career as Principal Dancer. In 2005, invited by Ted Brandsen, joined the Dutch National Ballet as Principal Guest Dancer. In 2003, while continuing his career as Principal Dancer, he started a choreographic activity creating plays that received excellent press reviews and have been performed at international festivals.
He now returns to Argentina for the world premiere of his latest creation.

Buenos Aires Jazz International Festival 2008


The Government of the city of Buenos Aires presents Buenos Aires Jazz 2008, with the ditrection of pianist and composer Adrián Iaies, in five days and five nights to enjoy this annual encounter with the best of international jazz, from October 15 to October 19, 2008.
The legendary pianist and composer Randy Weston (Brooklin, 1926) will be in charge of the opening of the festival at Teatro Coliseo on October 15, as an homage to jazz tradition. The closing night will be on October 19 in the same venue with the presentation of the great Brazilian artist Rosa Passos, joining the world wide celebration of the 50th anniversary of birth of bossa nova.
The Festival Buenos Aires Jazz 2008 will feature other great international artists like: Billy Harper, Donny McCaslin, the Spanish trio Sanbeat-Colina and Miralta, Tolvan Big Band, from Sweden, and the duo Guy Klucevsek and Alan Bern, among others, who will be presented in different venues, like: Teatro Coliseo (Marcelo T. de Alvear 1125), Teatro IFT (Boulogne Sur Mer 549), jazz clubs Notorious (Av. Callao 966) Kebaytina Resto Jazz (Bolívar 497), and Thelonious (Salguero 1884), Centro Cultural Recoleta (Junín 1930), Teatro General San Martín (Av. Corrientes 1530) and the National Library (Agüero 2502). Among the national artists are Guillermo Klein, Guillermo Romero, and Mariano Otero Noneto.

Tickets for the international shows are on sale at Casa de la Cultura (Av. de Mayo 575), 11 AM to 6 PM. For these shows, including the opening recital by Randy Weston with Billy Harper, and the closing show with Rosa Passo, the prices range from $ 10 to $ 30 Argentine Pesos.

The rest of the shows are free of charge, and tickets will be handed at every location.
