Extraordinary Free open air concert by Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra

A spectacular free concert by the great Argentinian born pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim, in front of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, formed by young Arab and Israeli musicians, will be presented on Saturday, August 21st, 2010, 3pm, at the Obelisk in Buenos Aires.
The stage will be located in Plaza de la Republica looking south and 5000 seats will be placed in the front. There will also be two large screens for better viewing of the show.
Overtura Leonore III and Beethoven´s Fifth Symphony will be interpreted during the concert, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires.
The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra
In 1999, Daniel Barenboim and Palestinian intellectual Edward Said, who died in 2003, established a workshop for young musicians from Israel, Palestine and other Middle Eastern Arab countries with the aim of promoting coexistence and intercultural dialogue.
The orchestra got its name from a collection of poems by the writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe called "West-Eastern Divan", a reference work for the development of the concept of global culture.
