Autoclasica 2010 - Antique and classic cars exhibition

Autoclasica 2010, the biggest festival for classic cars and motorcycles in South America will take place between October 8 and 11, 2010, at the Gardens of San Isidro Race Track.
Autoclasica will feature this year 500 automobiles and 300 motorcycles in their original state, and in perfect working conditions, as well as the famous Argentine "Monopostos".
For collectors, the classic "Autojumble", with over 100 stands offering antique pieces and accessories, books, models, and auto clubs stands from around the country.
A jury will award the most outstanding vehicles in every category of the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) in exhibition, and the "Best of Show” between autos and motorcycles of the year.

The best Operas from The Metropolitan Opera House live in HD in Buenos Aires


Opera lovers in Buenos Aires will now be able to enjoy the best productions, with the greatest singers and reggisseurs of the moment, of the 2010-11 opera season, live from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, presented by Fundacion Beethoven de Argentina.
The live high-definition performances are transmitted to movie theaters around the world. The fifth season of The Met Live in HD features 12 transmissions and begins and ends with the first two installments of Wagner’s epic Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelungs). More than 40 countries around the world are participating in The Met: Live in HD this season.
The series starts on October 9th, 2010, and all performances will be transmitted at Teatro El Nacional, Av. Corrientes 960 & Carlos Pellegrini, Buenos Aires.

Extraordinary Free open air concert by Zubin Mehta and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra

A spectacular free open air concert by the great conductor Zubin Mehta, in front of the  the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, will be presented on Saturday, October 2nd, 2010,  at 1pm, at the Obelisk in Buenos Aires.
The stage will be located in Plaza de la Republica looking south, and 8000 seats will be placed in the front. There will also be two large screens for better viewing of the show.
The concert, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, will consist of works from Johann Strauss Jr., Fritz Kreisler, Max Bruch, Antonin Dvorak, Johannes Brahms, Pablo de Sarasate and Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and a surprise ending.
The young violin player Mayuko Kamio will join the orchestra as invited soloist.

2010 Tortugas Country Club Open Polo Championship


The traditional Tortugas Country Club Open Polo Championship will kick off on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, a tournament where some of the teams with the highest handicap in the world, including La Dolfina and Ellerstina, will be disputing the Emilio de Anchorena Cup.
This is the first of the three great Polo Open Championships in the 2010 Official Spring Season of the Argentine Polo Association, marking the start of the honorable "Triple Crown" of Argentine Polo, also made up by the 117th Hurlingham Club Open and the 117th Argentine Open in Palermo.

Tennis: Copa Petrobras 2010

Created in 2004, Copa Petrobras (Petrobras Tennis Cup) has become the most important Challenger Circuit in Latin America. Wines and Wineries Fair: Vinos y Bodegas Cosecha 2010



Vinos y Bodegas, Cosecha 2010 (Wines and Wineries, 2010 Edition), will take place from September 22nd to 25th, 2010, at La Rural Exhibition Center. The most important Fair for the Wine Industry in Latin America will offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy the most renowned wine labels from traditional and boutique wineries in Argentina.
So far nearly 70 wineries have confirmed their presence in the 5000 m2 Pavilion where the event will take place.
A new feature this year is the Wine Bar, where visitors can sample high end wines from the wineries participating in the fair. In addition, at the Gourmet Area, with 8 renowned restaurants of Buenos Aires, will offer dishes to be paired with wines present in the Fair.
Visitors will also be able to stroll through Paseo de las Olivas, a space to know the progress that our country has made in the production of olive oil. Also present will be all wine schools, with different proposals to form increasingly informed consumers.
Cooking shows will be presented to show the preparation of dishes and advice the visitors about the best pairings between food and wine. In addition it will also be possible to enjoy outdoor spaces, which will create different atmospheres for sharing a glass of wine with friends Again this year, the Wine Store will be the space for those wishing to buy wine labels.
For the past years Argentina has been positioned in the international wine market among the five main wine producers worldwide, after France, Italy, Spain, and United States.

Mikhail Baryshnikov presents Three solos and a duet in Buenos Aires


One of the greatest dancers of all times, Mikhail Baryshnikov, comes to Buenos Aires in October to offer his latest show that has been presented with great success in cities across the U.S. and Europe.

This contemporary dance show: "Three solos and a duet", is composed of four pieces by prominent choreographers: two of the solos performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov: "Valse-Fantasie", by Alexei Ratmansky, and "Years Later", by Benjamin Millepied; and two pas de deux, 'Solo for Two' and 'Place', both signed by the choreographer Mats Ek, and which the legendary Russian artist performs with Spanish dancer Ana Laguna. In fact 'Place' is a piece that Ek created especially for these two great artists.

French Embassy opens its doors to the public celebrating European Heritage Day


Joining the celebration of European Heritage Days (Journées européennes du patrimoine), the French Embassy in Argentina will open its doors to the public on Sunday, September 19th, 2010, from 12 noon to 6 pm. This will allow visitors to discover the Palace Ortiz Basualdo, home to the French Embassy since 1939, built by French architect Paul Parter in 1912.
Besides the main entrance and the honor staircase, the public will be invited to visit the reception halls in the first floor, which make the Palace Ortiz Basualdo a significant example of the French influence in the Argentine architecture.
Accessing the second floor, visitors will admire the main dining room, the music room in a Louis XV style with Chinese decoration, the ball room, its mirrors and its painted boards, as well as the XVI century English style winter garden.
The French Embassy is located in Cerrito 1399, Recoleta.
An ID is required to enter the Embassy (Passport or DNI). No pictures will be allowed inside the residence.

Casa FOA 2010



Casa FOA is the most important yearly exhibition where decorators, architects, designers, and landscapers, selected for their talent and prestige, showcase the local and international trends in architecture, interior design, and landscaping. It will take place this year at "Casa FOA La Defensa", Defensa 269, from October 1st. Defensa Street connects the most ancient neighborhoods in Buenos Aires (Monserrat, San Telmo, and Barracas).
The exhibit will feature 40 architectural spaces that will make up the 2500 square meters of a renovated three-story old building.
Casa FOA was born in 1985 as an initiative of Mercedes Malbrán de Campos and a group of ladies with the purpose of raising funds for the Argentine Ophthalmology Foundation "Jorge Malbrán" (FOA). With a growing success, Casa FOA has become one the most important events in the country´s cultural agenda.

Polo: The Jockey Club Open Championship 2010 at San isidro


The magnificent fields of Buenos Aires Jockey Club, located in the town of San Isidro, North of Buenos Aires, will host one of the most important polo tournaments in our country: the 46th Jockey Club Open Championship, which opens the high handicap polo season in Argentina,. It will take place from September 8th through September 25th, 2010.

Paleontological roadshow Titans of Ischigualasto arrives in Buenos Aires


The exhibition, that will open on Tuesday, July 27th, 2010, at the Museum of Natural Sciences Bernardino Rivadavia, is the largest display of dinosaurs in South America, and the only one in the world that focuses on the first dinosaurs that roamed the Earth. This is because the exhibit is based on the animals found in the province of San Juan, Argentina, where the most ancient specimens in the planet where dug out. The public will be able to see for the first time the planet's oldest dinosaurs, and the animals with which they had to compete to become kings of the world, including giant crocodiles.

Titans of Ischigualasto covers more than 1,500 square meters, and contains four scenarios of up to 18 meters wide with recreations of the prehistoric habitat of the Triassic. It contains 29 sculptures of dinosaurs of different sizes represented in fights with giant crocodile-like reptiles and mammals. There are also eight skeletons, including a 21 meters long one. The entire exhibit is accompanied by a sound setting, theatrical lighting and multimedia reference materials. 


The exhibition is the result of more than 20 years of scientific research in Ischigualasto fossil site located in San Juan province, considered as the Cradle of Dinosaur by the world's paleontological scientific community.

The exhibition, funded by the Government of the Province of San Juan, required an investment of over three million dollars, has the support of CONICET, and started a few days ago an international tour which took place on July 9th at the Mori Art Center in Tokyo, Japan.

Bell Concert in Plaza de Mayo


The government of the City of Buenos Aires announces a Bell Concert, that will take place at Plaza de Mayo and surrounding area, at 6:30 PM next Saturday, September 11, 2010.

This type of concert has been performed in cities like The Vatican, Salzburg, Barcelona, Madrid, Mexico, Quito, Puebla, and two times in Buenos Aires, in 1998 and 2008.

This time the works of the prestigious musician Llorenç Barber will be performed from the bell towers of some of the most emblematic buildings in Buenos Aires, like the Carillon of the Legislative Building, Casa de la Cultura, Municipal Palace, Cabildo, Church of San Francisco, Church of San Ignacio de Loyola, Church of San Juan Bautista, Church of San Roque, and Clock of the Legislative Building.

The stage will be located in Plaza de la Republica looking south and 5000 seats will be placed in the front. There will also be two large screens for better viewing of the show.
Overtura Leonore III and Beethoven´s Fifth Symphony will be interpreted during the concert, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires.
The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra
In 1999, Daniel Barenboim and Palestinian intellectual Edward Said, who died in 2003, established a workshop for young musicians from Israel, Palestine and other Middle Eastern Arab countries with the aim of promoting coexistence and intercultural dialogue.
The orchestra got its name from a collection of poems by the writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe called "West-Eastern Divan", a reference work for the development of the concept of global culture.

2010 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Dance Competition

The 2010 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Dance Competition, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires, will be held between August 13 and 31, 2010.
This new edition features more than a hundred shows and free activities including concerts and dance performances, popular milongas, shows, conferences and clinics, a film series, exhibition and sale of products, dance classes in various levels and styles, and a competition in which the best couples of dancers from Argentina and the world will be participating.
Throughout the World Tango Festival classes of different levels and styles will be given by renowned dancers and instructors from recognized schools: Gloria and Eduardo, Mayoral and Elsa María, Fernando Galera and Vilma Vega, Gabriela Elias and Eduardo Perez, Carolina Bonaventura and Forquera Francisco, among others. Music from the 40's, live orchestras, mixed with electronic and rock music will liven up traditional milongas and alternative parties. Exhibitions, tributes and meetings with emblematic figures will be accompanied by Color Tango milonga, Ojos de Tango, Ultratango, Otros Aires, DJ Inca, DJ Mario Orlando and others.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
There will be book presentations, conferences and informative talks about historical figures. Tango in Japan and Finland. Tango and the kids. Tango in Argentine classical music. Studies of compositional styles. A film series by the Bafici devoted to films with musi by Astor Piazzolla from the '40s and '50s. The release of "Prisoners of the ground", a documentary about the tango in Finland. Clinics aimed at musicians and novices dedicated to Horacio Salgán, Eduardo Rovira and analysis of new works. Among many other activities.

WORLD DANCE COMPETITION:
This is the celebration that makes Buenos Aires the mecca for tango dancers around the world. The event rewards the best couples in the Tango Salon category, which stresses the social dance as a practice rooted in Buenos Aires, and Stage Tango, which aims to enrich the dance from a choreographic point of view. More than 400 couples from around the world measure their talents.
The World Cup culminates in two major finals in the Luna Park stadium, with the presentation of Miguel Angel Zotto, and a tribute to Maria Nieves, the sublime ballerina who nearly six decades ago, in this context and with Juan Carlos Copes, earned a standing ovation and a title of champion that never lapsed.

VENUES OF TANGO BUENOS AIRES:
Teatro de la Ribera (Av. Pedro DE Mendoza 1821, La Boca), Teatro 25 de Mayo (Triunvirato 4444, Villa Urquiza), Centro Cultural Recoleta (Junin 1930) and the Teatro Presidente Alvear (Av. Corrientes 1659) are part of the circuit. The new Meeting Point is one of the most famous examples of Art Deco in Buenos Aires, a building designed in the '20s by the legendary architect Alejandro Virasoro. Located in the heart of the City (Bartolome Mitre 575), this Meeting Point will concentrate a large number of concerts, dance classes and special events: parties and milongas, lectures, screenings, permanent exhibitions and trade shows for more than ten hours daily.
The rounds of the World Dance Championship will take place in La Trastienda (Balcarce 460) and Teatro Coliseo (M.T. de Alvear 1125), while the two major finals of Tango Salon and Tango Escenario will take place at the legendary Luna Park stadium (Av. Madero 420), on Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st August.

FREE TICKETS FOR SHOWS AND ACTIVITIES:
All activities and shows in Buenos Aires Tango are with free admission, subject to the capacity of every venue.
Tickets for the shows that are performed in the Teatro de la Ribera, Teatro Presidente Alvear, Teatro 25 de Mayo and Galileo Galilei Planetarium will be handed on Wednesday, August 4, from 11am to 7pm, at Casa de la Cultura, Av de Mayo 575. Up to 2 tickets per person for a maximum of two shows will be handed.
For the Semifinals and Finals of the World Tango Dance Championship categories Tango Salon and Stage to be held at Teatro Coliseo and Luna Park Stadium, tickets will be handed on Monday, August 16, from 11am to 7pm in Casa de la Cultura, Avenida de Mayo 575. Qualifying Rounds to be held in La Trastienda do not require advanced tickets. Admission is first come basis until filling the capacity of the venue.
Do not require advance tickets either the shows presented in the Meeting Point of Tango Buenos Aires, La Trastienda, and Centro Cultural Recoleta. Admission to these venues is on a first come basis until capacity limits for each location is reached.
