Bicentennial Equestrian Parade and Endurance demonstration in the streets on Buenos Aires

As part of the Bicentennial Celebrations, on Sunday, April 4, 2010, from 10.30 am, an Equestrian Parade will tour the main avenues of the City of Buenos Aires, with the participation of 300 horses from different horse breeds: Creole, Arabic, Quarter Horse, Polo Argentino, Appaloosa, Peruvian Paso, Percheron, Petiso, Fomento Equino, and Paint Horse, among others.

This unprecedented event will begin with a demonstration of the equestrian discipline Endurance, which will start from the Centre Court of La Rural, and will travel 11 km along the avenues Libertador, Figueroa Alcorta, Alvear and 9 de Julio, up to the symbolic Obelisk.

The Equestrian Parade will begin with an official ceremony at the Spaniard's Monument (Av. del Libertador y Av Sarmiento) in the presence of officers of the City Government and the various breed associations.

Endurance is a running race against the clock with the participation of a horse and rider. This discipline not only assesses the strength of the horse to travel long distances (40, 80, 120 or 160 km), but also the strategic approach of the rider. Spanish Art Museum Enrique Larreta

The Larreta residence was built in 1886 as a summer cottage in the Italian Renaissance style. It was surrounded by a garden with fruit and ornamental trees, beds with aromatic plants, and an orchard.
His subsequent owner, writer Enrique Larreta, after serving in the foreign service in France, brought an important art collection of Spanish works of art to decorate his new home. He also transformed the estate into the Spanish Renaissance style, with a significant collection of paintings, altarpieces, wood carvings, and furniture from the XIV to the XX century. In April 1962, at the death of the writer, his sons sold the house to the city of Buenos Aires and donated his collection of works of art and furniture
The collection that gave birth to the museum consisted primarily of wooden sculptures and paintings from the Renaissance ans Baroque periods, as well as a noteworthy set of furniture, arms, and decorative arts that embellished the different rooms in the house. The writer's collection was increased by acquisitions, donations and transfers of more than 30 works from the Museum ofHispanic-American Art Isaac Frenandez Blanco, that blended perfectly with the original collection.

The garden with fruit trees that surrounded the summer house was transformed by Larreta into and Andalusian garden, one of the few of its kind in the city, with the outline characteristic of Muslim gardens, with its fountains, labyrinths and paths that open into different directions. This lush garden invites to rest and relaxation.

There are several sculptures spread around the garden, one of which is a terracotta reproduction of Donatello's David.

Carnaval Porteño 2010 - Buenos Aires Carnival

Every weekend from Saturday, February 8 and until Sunday, February 28th, 2010, the “Carnaval Porteño 2010” (Buenos Aires Carnival) will take place at different neighborhoods, with the participation of 17 thousand artists, 100 "murgas" (carnival bands), and over one thousand drums and percussion instruments.

The parades will be held from 7 PM to 2 AM on Saturdays, and from 7 PM to 12 AM on Sundays.

Murgas and carnival are the artistic expressions of the marginal neighborhoods, their songs and urban folk customs. The lyrics of these songs are called "criticas", and combine the social denunciation with humor and dancing. What identifies the "murga porteña" from others are their costumes (frock coat, gloves, top hat, and stick), the drums with cymbals, and the various traditional rhythms used to differentiate every neighborhood.
