Caminos y Sabores (Roads and Flavors) 2013


The 9th edition of the food and crafts fair "Caminos y Sabores" (Roads and Flavors), will feature during 4 days the offers in typical food, tourism and handicrafts from all the regions in the country.

The Argentine provinces will be represented in the exhibition through their native foods and crafts. As every year from the first edition in 2005, visitors will be able to sample and buy olive oil; home made salamis; cow, sheep and goat cheeses; wines from family owned wineries; homemade jellies; yerba mate and tea; just to mention some of the products. There will also be a variety of handicrafts made with the typical materials and features of every region, including wool and leather products, jewelry with rodocrosite stone, and much more.

In the Cooking Room (Sala de Cocinas), at every moment, different chefs will be preparing dishes based on Argentine typical ingredients. There Fair will also feature a Houseware area, a food production workshop, the Punto Verde area (urban vegetable garden), among other attractions.

Yayoi Kusama retrospective works at the MALBA

Malba - Fundación Costantini opens the exhibition Yayoi Kusama - Infinit Obsession, the first retrospective in Latin America of the greatest living Japanese artist. Organized in collaboration with the study of the artist, the exhibition presents a comprehensive tour through more than 100 works created between 1950 and 2013, including paintings, works on paper, sculptures, videos, slideshows and installations.

Curated by Philip Larratt-Smith (Vice Chief Curator, Malba, Buenos Aires) and Frances Morris (head of international collections of Tate Modern, London, and curator of the retrospective of Kusama at the institution), the exhibition presents the full career of this artist.

Yayoi Kusama - Infinite Obsession includes the most important series of her nearly six decades of artistic production. Highlights of the exhibition are her Infinity Nets from the 50s, and the Accumulations sculptures, her performances and happenings in New York from the 60s, present in series like Self-Obliteration, and her recent paintings and installations, such as I'm Here, but Nothing (2000-2013), Infinity Mirrored Room - Filled with the Brilliance of Life, (2011) and The Obliteration Room, (2002-2013), white room that the public will intervene with colored spots throughout the exhibition. The Museum also presents an intervention with her iconic red polka dots on the front of Malba and a set of trees along Figueroa Alcorta Avenue.

On the occasion of the exhibition, Malba publishes a special volume of 232 pages published in Spanish and English. The book includes a section of color illustrations of works in the exhibition, essays by Larratt-Smith ("Song of an addict to suicide") and Frances Morris ("Yayoi Kusama. My life, one spot") and a visual chronology of the artist’s life.

The Italian Gastronomy event “Mangia che ti fa bene”, in which 25 of the best Italian restaurants in the city will offer lunch and dinner menus at promotional prices, will be held in Buenos Aires from June 21 to June 28, 2013.
Each restaurant will offer a menu with a fixed price of $ 69 Pesos for lunch and $ 149 Pesos for dinner, per person, not including drinks and tip. Cover charge is included.

Youth Culture Festival Ciudad Emergente 2013

The sixth edition of Ciudad Emergente, the Festival for the youth culture, will take place from Wednesday 19 to Sunday 23 of June, 2013 at Centro Cultural Recoleta.

This Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, presents the new expressions of the youth culture: rock, pop, street art, animation, poetry, cinema, fashion, theater, and digital art.

The activities in the festival include: fashion shows by novel designers; events that combine poetry and music; street art; hip hop and other street dance style shows; movie screenings with a program related to national and international rock and roll; fashion and digital art exhibitions; chill out lounges; music concerts; DJs, VJs.

The sensational show "Fuerza Bruta" will be presented on June 20, 21, 22, and 23, at 2:00 pm. Free tickets for all these performances must be picked up on Tuesday, June 18, from 12:00 pm (up to 2 tickets per person until reaching the total of 2000 tickets), in exchange of a donation of clothes, footwear or blankets for the Winter Solidarity Campaign "BA Solidaria".

Admission free of charge for all the activities, with limited capacity.

Expo Cuisine&Vins 2013


Over 300 first class companies will showcase their products on June 12, 13, and 14, 2013, at the Expo Cuisine&Vins 2013, the 20th edition of the wine exhibition organized by Cuisine&Vins Magazine, where visitors have the chance to taste some of the best wines produced in Argentina.

New and traditional wineries will present their premium labels, talks and tastings by enologists and wine makers. There will also be stands dedicated to spirits, cigars, luxury resorts, delicatessen, crafts from all over the country, as well as the new flavors of the most outstanding restaurants of the moment.

Wine tastings will be offered every day, with limited capacity and with previous accreditation at the Expo.

Free exhibition of Drawings from the personal collection of Fernando Botero

The National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires has inaugurated the exhibition “Botero, drawings on canvas and paper”, a display of 50 drawings created between 1973 and 2011 by the great Colombian artist Fernando Botero (Medellín, 1932). All these works belong to the artist's private collection, which is rarely exhibited and only in museums. 

In these works Botero uses watercolor, pencil, pastel, ink and charcoal on both paper and canvas. Botero is specially skilled working with sanguine, a soft, dark red pencil, a technique little used by artists and which requires exceptional skill and expertise.

The exhibition comprises fifty drawings, mostly made ​​in black and white. Very few of these works are in color, and these are watercolors. 

The exhibition is divided into five "chapters": the first is devoted to Latin American life, the source of inspiration for Botero. Botero portrays the life of the town and its characters, costumes, architecture, habits and rituals. The second "chapter" focuses on the theme of violence and bullfighting. The third "chapter" is dedicated to the circus. The fourth to large-scale works, with many still lives. And the fifth is devoted to music.

arteBA´13 Contemporary Art Fair

arteBA Contemporary Art Fair, that will take place on May 24 - 27, 2013, is the most popular cultural event in the city of Buenos Aires and the most important one of its kind in Latin America. arteBA is an art exhibition where art galleries display their best artworks, offering the general public the chance to come face to face with truly unique collectors’ pieces. It is also an opportunity for the newer art centers from all over the region to present their younger artists and reveal the very latest trends, which are simply absent from other art fairs. 82 carefully selected galleries from Latin America, North America and Europe will exhibit works by the most outstanding contemporary artists at this great cultural event.
arteBA Foundation called for the tenth edition of arteBA-Petrobras Prize for the Visual Arts. Each one of the selected projects have been awarded a determined amount of pesos to be used for its realization and exhibition at arteBA `13. Once the winning projects have been exhibited at the Fair, a second, International Prize-Giving Jury will award a (non-acquisitional) Incentive Prize of $ 50,000 pesos. The prize will be granted after the final in situ installation of the works.
The third edition of U-TURN Project Rooms by Mercedes Benz will bring together the work of more than 20 artists represented by twelve galleries from Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Switzerland, Peru, and Germany.
Young Argentine and foreign galleries that represent mainly Latin American artists will be present at Barrio Joven Chandon.
The OPEN FORUM 2013 will be held with free admission in the fair’s auditorium.

Beer Festival: BeerDay Buenos Aires 2013

On May 26, 2013, the Auditorium of Buenos Aires Design Center (Av. Pueyrredon 2501, Recoleta. Level 2) receives Beer Day Festival, a beer tasting event focusing on specialty beers. The Festival will bring together 20 breweries from different regions in the country in one place.

Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to learn how to cook with beer, and try dishes to be tasted with the different specialty beers; taste more than 50 styles of beer; and attend to talks on food pairing, sensory analysis of beer, tasting process and history.

The event will also feature live shows and DJ sets. One of the guests is the band tribute to the Blues Brothers, The Soul Men.

Some of the Argentine breweries participating in the event are: Cross (Bariloche), Owe (Neuquén), Fenicia (Rosario), Sauce (Santa Fe), Owl (Entre Rios) and Antares (Mar del Plata), among others.

The entrance fee includes five tastings of different styles of specialty beers (including Honey, Indian Pale Ale, Scotch, Porter and Weissbier) and access to all the talks. The event starts on Sunday at 2pm and finishes at 1am.

International Show Jumping Competition Gran Premio Sol de Mayo 2013


The annual show jumping competition "Gran Premio Sol de Mayo" will take place on Sunday, May 19th, 2013, from 12:30 pm at Club Hipico Argentino, with the participation of the best national and international riders. This is one of the most important tournaments in the annual show jumping calendar in Argentina.

The main event, the International Grand Prize "Sol de Mayo" (1.5m) starts at 4:00 pm.

There will be activities for the whole family, like the presence of marching bands, vaulting exhibitions, free pony rides.

Feria PuroDiseño 2013

The 2013 edition of Feria PuroDiseño, that will take place from May 21st to May 26th, 2013, at the Pabellón Amarillo in La Rural, will exhibit the avant-garde works of over 350 designers in the fields of clothing, accessories, contemporary jewelry, equipment, objects, digital design, graphic design, contemporary craftsmanship, textile development, and lighting.

The Fair features different thematic spaces, like:
  • Arte Espacio: an art exhibition area with works from the most talented artists.
  • Sustainable Space: exhibition of eco and socially responsible elements.
  • La Seleccion: selection of new designers.
  • Jewelers in Action: Open workshops by jewel designers with the participation of the public.
  • Puro Kids: for kids between 6 and 12 years of age, to enjoy games and participate in the in the creation of a great art work.
  • 2nd National Footwear Contest: The 10 finalists will exhibit their creations at the Fair
Feria PuroDiseño is a space where design is the main protagonist. Tango: Buenos Aires City Dance Champhionship 2013

From Sunday, May 12th to Sunday, May 26th, 2013, the Buenos Aires City Tango Dance Championship 2013 will be held in different "milongas", theaters, and cultural centers across the city.

The competition is on the look out for new winning couples in the categories Tango de Pista, Milonga, "Milongueros" of the World, and Waltz, who will qualify to participate in the World Tango Dance Championship that will take place in Buenos Aires in August 2013.

The Championship starts on May 12th at Teatro 25 de Mayo. The qualifying rounds will continue on Saturday 18 at CC Resurgimiento (La Paternal), Sunday 19 at CC Julián Centeya (San Cristóbal), and Tuesday 21 at CC Carlos Gardel (Chacarita), all with free entrance and limited capacity, until Wednesday 22 at La Viruta (Palermo) ($ 40 Pesos), to arrive at semifinals on Thursday 23rd at El Pial (Flores) ($30 Pesos).

The Final will be held on Sunday, May 26th at the recently inaugurated cultural center Usina del Arte (Av. Pedro de Mendoza & Caffarena), in La Boca, with free entrance. Free tickets for this event must be picked up at Casa de la Cultura, Av. de Mayo 575, on Friday 24th, from 12pm to 5pm (2 tickets per person). Make sure to get in line early!

5th Buenos Aires International Circus Festival

The 5th Buenos Aires International Circus Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, will take place between May 9 and May 19, 2013.

The Festival will offer the public unique experiences, outstanding artistic performances, and fun national and international shows, including 20 shows and 60 performances by Circus companies from France, Chile, Colombia, UK, Sweden, focusing on contemporary circus.

The French artist Camille Boittel and his company will present 3 different shows: “L´Inmédiat”, “Le Cabaret Calamatieux”, and “La Machine à jouer”.

There will be activities in the gardens of museums and parks, where families will  have the chance to enjoy a picnic while watching a fun circus show.

The Rugby Championship 2013


The Rugby Championship, the tournament that started in 2012 replacing the Tri Nations tournament, with Argentina joining the three rugby powers of the South Hemisphere (New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa), will commence on it´s second year on 17 August, 2013 at ANZ Stadium, with a popular clash between the Wallabies and 2012 season’s winners, the All Blacks.

During the tournament each team will play a home and and away fixture against each opponent.

The Argentine team, Los Pumas, will dispute three matches as locals during the tournament, against South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, in the cities of Mendoza, La Plata and Rosario.

The debut of Los Pumas in our country will be on Saturday, August 24th, against South Africa's Springboks, at the stadium Malvinas Argentinas, in the city of Mendoza.

The second match will be against the All Blacks, the current World Champions, at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, on Saturday, September 28th

Finally, on Saturday, October 5th, at the stadium Gigante de Arroyito, in the city of Rosario, Los Pumas will play against Australia's Wallabies, in the final match of the second edition of The Rugby Championship.

Previous to this tournament Los Pumas will playing two test matches against Enlgand, on June 8th in the city of  Salta, and on June 15th in Buenos Aires, and a third test match against Georgia on June 22nd.

Puma Urban Art 2013 - Street Art Exhibition



Puma Urban Art 2013 will be the meeting point for the best national and international urban artists. An original event, dedicated to contemporary art and the new trends on street art around the world, that will take place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 of May, 2013, at Centro Cultural Recoleta.

This sixth edition of the Festival will feature the presence of international artists, like Tristan Eaton and Jimbo Phillips, and national artists Ramiro Smith Estrada, Romeo, Emanuel Sosa,Consuelo Vidal, Lucas Varela (comics), Kustom Brothers, Feno Artworks, La Chancha y los Veinte, Rock n’ Ride, Falu Carolei and Poleta (pin-ups girls art).

Exhibitions of national and international urban art works; panel talks; national and international music bands, live painting; conferences, documentaries, are some of the activities programmed for the event.

Horse Racing: Gran Premio Republica Argentina 2013



The "Gran Premio Republica Argentina" (GI), one of the most important classics of the year, will take place on Labor Day, Wednesday, May 1st, 2013, at Hipodromo Argentino de Palermo, Av. Libertador & Dorrego.

This outstanding 2000-meter race gathers the best 3 years old and older pure thoroughbred horses of the national and foreign equestrian activity.

The Great Prize "Gran Premio Republica Argentina - Japan Racing Association Cup" will be the center of a spectacular journey that will start at 1:00 pm. Other five big prizes (GI) are included in the day's schedule: Great International Prize of the Americas; Breeders' Prize; Great International Prize of Buenos Aires City; Great Prize Jorge de Atucha; and the Great Prize Montevideo.
